Description

The City of Littleton Police Department is seeking a highly organized, analytical, and collaborative professional to serve as Police Accreditation Manager. This position plays a critical leadership role in managing the strategic direction of the Police Department’s accreditation program and ensuring continued compliance with national and local accreditation standards. The accreditation process occurs annually with an onsite CALEA Assessment every four years.

The Police Accreditation Manager exercises decision-making authority and serves as the primary coordinator for the agency’s accreditation activities. This includes policy development and review, compliance monitoring, proof collection and verification, internal audits, assessment preparation, staff training, and ongoing communication with accreditation organizations. As Police Accreditation Manager, you will help ensure the Police Department maintains the highest standards of organizational performance while supporting effective policies, procedures, training, and operations.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and effective communicator who can manage complex accreditation requirements while building strong relationships across the organization. The successful candidate will have experience researching policies, regulations, standards, and technical information with the ability to translate requirements into practical organizational procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of accreditation standards, requirements, and processes is preferred.

Hiring pay range $85,646 - $90,154 per year

This full-time position is exempt per FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, and may have the option to work a hybrid schedule, combining remote work with in-person days at the office.

The expected duration of the hiring process is 6 to 12 weeks. Applicants who enter the process but are not selected for employment are not eligible to re-apply for the same position with the City of Littleton for one year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works under the general guidance and direction of the Support Services Supervisor; attends staff meetings, communicates ongoing accreditation needs and mitigates issues to resolve concerns with re-accreditation.
  • Responsible for records integrity, managing verification of proofs, internal audits, and maintenance of accurate, organized, and audit-ready records in compliance with accreditation processes.
  • Collects proof of compliance and produces appropriate reports in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Develops and provides accreditation process training for staff and new employee orientation.
  • Prepares and submits required accreditation reports, provides compliance status updates to leadership, and serves as the primary liaison with CALEA and related organizations.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements on-site assessments, including press releases, equipment availability, and building tour with department personnel.
  • Writes and/or reviews all new and revised policies, procedures, initiatives, programs and projects across the organization to ensure compliance with, and limit conflicts among various accreditation standards.
  • Coordinates with legal staff to review policy adherence with applicable laws and changing legislation.
  • Prepares and submits annual and other reports to CALEA.
  • Reviews department policies and procedures for compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Conducts policy research and surveys of jurisdictions relating to accreditation.
  • Assists in writing directives to ensure accreditation requirements, updates accreditation plan as necessary.
  • Analyzes and identifies industry changes and trends as per CALEA and alert management to anticipated changes.
  • Works with senior management in developing program goals and milestones.
  • Prepares reports on existing department operations, methods and procedures as they relate to accreditation standards.
  • Develops and maintains department manuals as necessary; maintains all records associated with accreditation.
  • Maintains and updates Police Department Policies and Police Department Standard Operating Procedures as requested.
  • May serve as Emergency Worker.
  • Performs other similar related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Associate degree; or
  • Sixty (60) semester credit hours or ninety (90) quarter credit hours from an accredited college or university, with all grades for the courses submitted for compliance with this requirement at the level of ‘C’ or better;

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of business support experience (CALEA experience preferred); or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the professional standards maintained by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)
  • Accreditation process and compliance experience
  • Law enforcement experience
  • CALEA Accreditation Manager Certification and/or CALEA Site-Based Assessor Certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Ability to plan, direct and coordinate the work of professional and support personnel involved in accreditation activities.
  • Ability to formulate short- and long-range plans necessary in accomplishing accreditation goals and utilize a high level of interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to identify/analyze problems and develop effective responses/solutions to resolve such problems.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with personnel at all levels of the organization, external agencies, and accreditation partners.
  • Ability to read/understand a wide range of technical literature, complete assignments in a timely manner, and to deal tactfully, professionally and effectively with others to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to coordinate Mock/On-site assessment team visits by scheduling assessment dates and coordinating hotel stays and processing travel and per diem expenses.
  • Requires the skills and abilities to maintain the confidentiality of files, office activities, and other matters and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with superiors, fellow workers, attorneys, court officials, other police, and related agencies' personnel.
  • Requires the ability maintain the confidentiality of matters as appropriate.
  • Requires a basic knowledge of the principles of government regulation and the ability to read, interpret, apply, and communicate the requirements of selected provisions of the City Charter, codes, and regulations to perform the essential duties of this position.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: 

The majority of the essential duties for this position are performed indoors in a standard office environment. Physical requirements include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
