Job Description
Basic Purpose
This position will assist the Food Service Manager to perform highly skilled work involving the daily food service operations of the Sooner Job Challenge. SJC serves up to 100 people per meal; three meals per day, seven days per week plus an after dinner snack and participates in the USDA National School Meals programs.
Compensation: $47,604.00
Typical Functions
- Assist Food Service Manager in coordinating purchasing, food planning, preparation and serving, inventory control, cleaning and maintenance of sanitary standards in the preparation areas, serving and dining areas of the Dining Facility.
- Supervise staff and prepare work schedules.
- Create and maintain food production records in accordance with the state Child Nutrition guidelines and prepare required reports.
- Review menus and suggest changes; interpret recipes, modified diet plans and proper portion control in accordance with USDA National School Meals programs.
- Recommend updates to standard operating procedures as necessary.
- Presents findings about relevant problems or issues to supervisor.
- Attend and/or conduct staff meetings and provide annual continuing educational training requirements for all school nutrition employees.
- Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.
- May be asked to supervise students serving in support roles in the dining facility.

Education and Experience
requirements at this level consist of an associate’s degree in culinary arts, food management or a similar field and one year of experience in a supervisory capacity or supervising inmates in a commercial or institutional food service environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education. Experience working with youth is also desireable.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
required at this level include knowledge of requisition and inventory records; of food service organization and operation; of food preparation and modified diets; of safety hazards and precautions; of proper sanitation methods; of food storage methods; of menu planning and recipe interpretation; of standard cooking weights and measures; and of the principles of training. Ability is required to interpret and prepare special dietary menus and menu instructions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to give and follow oral and written instructions; and to organize and supervise the work of others.
Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office programs and the internet.
Special Requirements
Licenses/Certificates required:
- At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either not more than 5 years prior to employment or completed within 30 calendar days of employee’s start date.
- Valid Oklahoma Driver’s license

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs, able to bend, stoop, twist, reach overhead, stretch and be on feet for extended periods.
Conditions of Employment:
- Serves a 12-month trial period
- Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check
- Contingent on passing pre-employment drug & alcohol screening
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license
- T1/CNACI security clearance (eligibility for national security positions shall be granted to persons who are U.S. citizens only)
