Full Stack Software Engineer
Location
New York City, NY
On-site role requiring five days per week in the Bryant Park area of New York City.
Compensation
$150,000 – $190,000 Base + Competitive Equity
Compensation may extend up to approximately $220,000 for exceptional candidates.

Our client is building a national education research and data platform designed to help students, counselors, and schools make better-informed decisions about education, careers, and college applications.
The platform aggregates and analyzes large-scale, de-identified student application and outcomes data to provide insights that can improve how students choose classes, careers, colleges, and educational pathways.
The company has experienced rapid growth, expanding from a small dataset of several hundred applications to hundreds of thousands of applications and thousands of participating organizations in a relatively short period of time.
The platform is already being used by counselors and educational organizations across the United States and internationally, with significant room to expand across the broader education market.
The team is exceptionally small and highly ambitious, with a strong focus on mission, technical excellence, and real-world impact. This is a foundational engineering opportunity where the successful candidate will join as one of the company's earliest developers and work directly alongside the founding engineering team.
As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll own critical systems end-to-end, build production software used in high-stakes educational decisions, integrate AI into real workflows, and help solve challenging problems involving large-scale data, privacy, cybersecurity, and product development.
This is a highly autonomous engineering environment where engineers are expected to define problems, make architectural decisions, ship quickly, and take responsibility for outcomes rather than waiting for detailed specifications.
What You'll Do
- Own core software systems end-to-end from initial design and first commit through production
- Build and ship full-stack product features used by counselors and educational organizations
- Develop production applications across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure layers
- Ship meaningful product improvements on a weekly basis
- Work directly with the founding engineering team on high-priority technical initiatives
- Design and implement scalable application architectures
- Make architecture decisions balancing development speed, reliability, security, and scalability
- Integrate LLMs and AI capabilities into real production workflows
- Build AI-powered features that solve meaningful user and business problems
- Work with large-scale education and student application datasets
- Build systems for processing, analyzing, and securely managing complex data
- Design and maintain data pipelines and data processing workflows
- Work with de-identified and privacy-sensitive datasets
- Build systems that protect student privacy and maintain data correctness
- Contribute to cybersecurity and data privacy initiatives
- Help build toward SOC 2 compliance and other security requirements
- Work with authentication, authorization, access controls, and secure data handling
- Build and maintain backend APIs and services
- Develop frontend experiences using React and Next.js
- Build backend services using Node.js and Express
- Work with databases and data storage systems including MongoDB and AWS S3
- Work with cloud infrastructure and deployment systems on AWS and related platforms
- Build and maintain production applications using Vercel and modern cloud tooling
- Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and similar tools to accelerate development
- Become highly effective at orchestrating AI coding tools to move from idea to production quickly
- Work without detailed specifications and define the problem before determining the solution
- Identify technical patterns and architectural opportunities across the product
- Improve existing systems while continuing to ship new functionality
- Debug complex technical and product problems independently

- 0–5 years of software engineering experience
