TITLE OIM 3545 Student Mentor
DEPARTMENT OIM (Operations Information Management)

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Operations Information Management (OIM) seeks a Student Mentor to support the instruction of OIM 3545 Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, an advanced Applied Business Intelligence course. The mentor will work closely with the instructor to facilitate student learning and assist with various course-related activities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Assisting with Course Instruction, Supporting Course Logistics, Research and Development.
Prepare and deliver brief lectures or presentations (15 – 20 minutes) on relevant topics during office hours.
Proctor exams and assist with exam administration.
Support students during in-class lab activities.
Maintain student attendance records.
Provide technical support to students using course software and tools (e.g., database management systems, data analysis platforms, and other tools).
Assist with maintaining the course Canvas site.
Stay current on relevant topics in business intelligence and data analytics
Suggest modifications and improvements to materials and course content.
Explore and evaluate new technologies and tools for use in the course.
Assist with the development of new course materials and assignments.
Assume additional responsibilities as required.
YOUR TEAM WILL INCLUDE
For training, support, and guidance with completing the position responsibilities, the mentor reports to Nathaniel Trotman, Division Coordinator of OIM, and Professor Matthew Macarty. This position is held under the Operations and Information Management Division. Mentors will also establish collaborative relationships with the OIM Division.
WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
Candidate will have successfully completed OIM 3545 previously.
Strong academic record with an interest in teaching and mentoring.
Ability to work independently.
Have well-developed communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., MySQL, Tableau, Power BI, Web scraping, and NoSQL databases).
Have a solid understanding of core business intelligence concepts, including data processing, database design, data analysis, data visualization, and data warehousing.
Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative; deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism; and appreciate open-mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.

Class Section Time: Olin Hall 120 | Tue/Thu | 1:15 PM - 2:45 PM
Office hours as needed.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE
This is an hourly, paid leadership position for the Fall 2026 semester. On average, the mentor will work four hours a week for the Fall 2026 semester.
