The AEGIS program at Leidos currently has an opening for a Cable Plant Engineer II to work in our Stennis Space Center (SSC), MS office.

Work Environment:

This position is performed in a dynamic operational environment and frequently requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Employees may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, and electrical hazards. The work environment may involve consistently high noise levels.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

Employees will regularly use their hands to handle, manipulate, and operate equipment and tools. The role frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and communicating verbally. Occasional sitting is required. Employees must also be able to safely lift, carry, and move telecommunications equipment, including switches, servers, and UPS units, as well as the visual acuity necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide NASA, NASA-Contractors, and NASA-Tenants with cable plant services and support at the Stennis Space Center. The lists below outline the desired skills and knowledge required for the position.

Required Skills, Certifications, and Technical Knowledge

The successful candidate must possess the following skills, certifications, technical knowledge, and experience to effectively perform the responsibilities of this position:

SSC Skills and Certifications:

  • Experience with Circuit Information Management System data entry.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and design.

  • Experience with Fluke LinkWare testing.

  • Current Confined Space Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Current Air Respirator Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Current Asbestos Awareness training/certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Current Fall Arrest Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Current OSHA 10/30 Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Knowledge of dig permit requirements, including Mississippi 811(MS811).

Cable Plant Standards, Knowledge, and Training:

  • Current Corning ISP/OSP NPI Installer Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

  • Knowledge of CommScope/SYSTIMAX installation and design practices.

  • Knowledge of TIA-568B standards.

  • Experience testing and troubleshooting cable systems.

  • Knowledge of SYSTIMAX Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS) installation and design.

  • Experience with data center engineering.

  • Knowledge of Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Fiber to the Edge (FTTE) technologies.

  • Knowledge of Passive Optical Network (PON) and DWDM/CWDM technologies.

  • Experience with cellular Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).

  • Knowledge of blown/jetted fiber installation techniques.

  • Knowledge of Class I/II, Division II installation methods.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications standards and CNSSAM TEMPEST compliance requirements.

  • Experience with Category 6A patch cord installation.

  • Knowledge of bonding and grounding standards.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).

Project Management and Office Skills:

  • Experience with project estimation and planning.

  • Strong team-building and collaboration skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with office software and technical documentation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience or AA/AS degree and 8 years of relevant experience.

Clearance requirements: 

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearance or Public Trust.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
