House Manager / Family Assistant

Employment Type: Part-time (20–25 hours/week)

Compensation: $32–38/hour based on experience

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience with young children, including toddlers and infants
• Ability to lift and safely secure young children in and out of car seats
• Reliable personal transportation to and from the job (a family vehicle with car seats is provided for all job-related driving)
• CPR certified, or willing to become certified prior to start
• Ability to maintain a smoke-free environment
• Authorized to work in the United States

Proposed Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00–2:30 PM to 6:00–6:30 PM. The schedule is consistent week to week, with occasional flexibility requested for sick-day coverage or date night support when available.

We are a busy, health-conscious family of four with two young daughters — a baby (1.5) and a toddler (4) — who bring lots of energy, personality, and joy to our home. Both parents work full-time, and we care deeply about creating a home that feels healthy, organized, and calm, even when life gets busy. We have strong systems in place and value thoughtful routines that help our family feel our best.

Our kids are both in school during the day, but the afternoon and evening is where we need the most support. We’re looking for someone who can become a trusted part of our routine — handling school pickups, getting the children home safely, settling into the afternoon rhythm, and helping everything transition smoothly through dinner and the end of the workday. A weekly service provides prepared meals and housekeeping comes bi-weekly, allowing this role to focus primarily on our kids and creating a more seamless evening for everyone.

We love spending time together as a family and want someone who genuinely enjoys being around young children. Our younger daughter has a severe soy allergy, so attentiveness and care around food handling is essential. Our older daughter is social, curious, and loves conversation and connection. You are extremely reliable and take punctuality seriously, as the afternoon routine depends on you being there when the girls need you. You are confident caring for multiple young children at once and comfortable managing the practical, hands-on needs that come with this stage, including diaper changes, car-seat safety, packing lunches, and keeping everyone safe and engaged. You are also comfortable navigating a moderate incline on foot while accompanying young children.

You are methodical, self-directed, and able to manage a consistent daily cadence without needing frequent reminders. You notice what needs attention and take care of it or communicate proactively when something needs follow-up. You are a confident, responsible driver who takes transporting young passengers seriously, communicate clearly, and bring a positive, upbeat presence into the home. Above all, you are dependable, attentive, and someone the family can trust to make their afternoons and evenings feel smoother, calmer, and more enjoyable.

Key Responsibilities

Family Support & Child Assistance

• Manage the full Monday–Friday afternoon pickup routine for both children, adhering to strict pickup windows and transitioning them home for dinner — including warming and having the family meals on the table by 5:45 PM
• Provide warm, engaged evening care for both children through the end of the shift
• Manage diaper changes and routine care for the younger child
• Provide flexible sick-day childcare coverage within the regular schedule when a child is home sick as needed

Household Organization & Maintenance

• Perform a daily kitchen reset, including unloading and reloading the dishwasher, wiping down the table, high chair, and surfaces, and sweeping kitchen and dining areas
• Pick up and tidy children's toys and common living areas
• Put out trash and recycling on Monday nights
• Break down and dispose of cardboard boxes
• Replace humidifier filters approximately every six weeks
• Change batteries, light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, and air filters as needed
• Tidy outdoor spaces, including patio furniture and children's outdoor toys
• Coordinate and help schedule home maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, gutters, and seasonal upkeep
• Support garage organization and refreshing as a stretch goal

Meal Planning & Prep

• Unpack backpacks and lunch boxes upon arrival home
• Pack lunch boxes and snacks for the following school day, following specific food requirements and carefully accounting for a severe soy allergy
• Plate and serve pre-prepared dinners; no cooking required

Laundry & Linens

• Cycle laundry loads throughout the week, including washing, drying, folding, and putting away
• Iron dress shirts and hang dress pants
• Manage linen rotation, including bath towels and bed sheets
• Handle unpacking and laundering after family travel

Vehicle Upkeep

• Schedule and take the family vehicle for oil changes and car washes as needed
• Schedule maintenance as needed

Inventory & Errands

• Coordinate donation drop-offs when schedule allows
• Drop off and pick up dry cleaning monthly
• Break down and manage boxes and packaging

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

• Refresh garage/mudroom/entry as needed
• Clean humidifiers/air purifiers as needed
• Organizational projects (toys, gear)

Vendor & Property Oversight

• Research/coordinate repairs and quotes as needed
• Seasonal property maintenance as needed
