Responsibilities

This position has a targeted start date of Summer 2027.

 

  • This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering.
  • You will work under the direction and supervision of senior I&C engineers on project teams involved in the design of new power plants, modifications to existing power generation facilities, plant controls betterment, and new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities.
  • You will assist with the design of process control systems and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of I&C equipment and related installation services.
  • You will assist with the development of I&C design deliverables, including P&IDs, I/O lists, control panel designs, cause & effect matrices, control narratives, network architecture, cable schedules, and location plans.
  • Through mentoring, classroom-style technical sessions, and on-the-job training, you will increase your knowledge and skills in your engineering discipline.
  • This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with graduation in Spring 2028 or Winter 2027, is required. An emphasis on control systems is preferred.
  • Ability to apply I&C engineering principles to project design deliverables and technical problem solving.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, with emphasis on MS Excel and Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional work habits.
  • Resourceful and enthusiastic attitude.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Related engineering internship or co-op work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.

In this role, we expect people to be willing or able to solve problems using modern tools:

  • You are expected to take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$18.00 - $30.00
