Purpose

• As a Solution Designer, your job is to solve larger problems and translate Solution Architecture into End-to-end solution designs at Business outcome or EPIC level.
• The solution designer is responsible to understand the Product / Initiative requirements and ensure that the requirements are met by the solution design.
• The Solution designer will work with Product Owners, Architects, asset designers, engineering, and testing scrum team to Assess requirements, review architecture, plan and create solution designs, elaborate them to Asset teams during progressing elaboration.

Essential capabilities

• Experience in technology start up scenarios, think like a startup engineer, working in a lean way.
• Experienced engineer with Java/Microservice background, who worked on high volume, time critical real-time Payment systems in a major bank or Product company and can help the engineering teams to design and build Microservices based solutions
• Understand the infrastructure landscape in multi-cloud environments and create performant and resilient designs.
• Can translate functional and non-functional requirements into design solutions working with other architects and designers.
• Having experience of working in payments and STP applications and designed vertical and horizontal scaling solutions
• Proven capability to analyse logging and monitoring data to identify issues and use relevant tools for problem-solving and troubleshooting.
• Strong Commitment to quality and details.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills
• Strong focus on modern Engineering and design practises
• Being Frugal in approaches to delivery

Desired Experience and skills

• 14+ years of technology experience.
• 8+ years in application design and build roles.
• Technical domain experience (e.g., SME technology or Tools)
• Expert in Cloud native microservice designs.
• Deep understanding of Logging and analytics tools like Splunk and APM tools like AppDynamics.
• Handson experience of building REST APIs and events-based Integration patterns using Kafka.
• Excellent understanding of microservice architecture patterns and cloud architecture aspects.

Tertiary qualification in technology related degree

Key Decisions

• Promote and improve maturity of design and engineering practices across the business.
• Ensuring the solutions to the organization’s transformation journey are as optimized as possible.
• Providing technical support and guidance during end to end functional and non-functional testing, resolving, mitigating and preventing critical incidents

Key Accountabilities

• Solution Designer must be familiar with the code base if a custom application or tool configurations and setup if an off-the-shelf package. 
• Ultimate technical solution design ownership for the Epic sits with the Solution Designer.
• Major contribution to technology strategy for innovative solutions approved by Executive.
• Often involved in technology/business project outside their immediate areas of responsibility.
• Act as area representative in group wide initiatives.
• Work closely in collaboration with other engineers from squads involved in delivering the Epic to ensure the on-time delivery of software features to Release Trains (your primary focus is to “catch the train”)
• Work in collaboration with the Epic Product Owner and engineers and Product Owners from other squads involved in delivering the Epic to progressively elaborate and prioritise Features and Stories (both within progressive elaboration sessions and outside of these sessions).
• Drive the design, iteration, and delivery of the Epic technical solution, working closely in collaboration with other engineers from squads involved in delivering the Epic.
• Drive towards the simplest technical solution that will deliver the defined Epic outcomes, within the NAB Group’s performance, resilience, security, and architecture guardrails.
