We are seeking a Field Application Engineer (FAE) whose primary focus is firmware support for our motor control SoCs in data center infrastructure — cooling fans, liquid-cooling pumps, and rack-level thermal management. Most of the role is spent in customer firmware: integrating our SDK, configuring device registers and peripherals, tuning control loops, and debugging commutation, timing, and fault behavior on real hardware. The FAE sits between our customers' firmware and hardware teams and our internal design organization. It suits an early-career engineer grounded in embedded firmware and motor control fundamentals (BLDC/PMSM, FOC, inverter topologies).
Key Responsibilities
Firmware ownership: SDK and API integration, device register and peripheral configuration, toolchain and build setup, and firmware porting onto the customer's platform.
Firmware debug and tuning: sensorless and sensored FOC, trapezoidal commutation, speed and torque loop tuning, startup and stall handling, and PWM/ADC interrupt timing.
Customer support: pre-sales and post-sales technical support to data center OEM and ODM customers, from device selection through firmware bring-up and production release.
Device selection: recommend motor drivers, gate drivers, MCUs, and current-sense and position-feedback schemes against customer power, efficiency, acoustic, and form-factor targets.
Hardware bring-up: schematic and PCB layout review, evaluation-board demos, and hands-on debug of commutation, current loops, and startup behavior.
Field issues: diagnose thermal performance, efficiency, audible noise, EMI/EMC compliance, and reliability problems under continuous-duty operation.
Collateral and feedback: maintain sample firmware, reference designs, and application notes, and feed customer requirements and field data back to product and design teams.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
1–3 years of experience in motor control, power electronics, or embedded systems; relevant internships and co-ops considered.
Working experience of BLDC/PMSM motor control — sensorless FOC, trapezoidal commutation, PWM generation, and inverter/half-bridge topologies.
Strong embedded C on an MCU, DSP, or motor control SoC — bare-metal — with the ability to read, modify, and debug production motor control firmware.
Practical firmware debugging with IDE such as Keil or IAR and serial or trace tooling, plus familiarity with on-chip peripherals (PWM, ADC, timers, SPI/I2C/UART).
Comfortable with lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, current probes, power analyzer, thermal camera) and able to read schematics.
Strong written and spoken English, and willingness to travel to customer and manufacturing sites (approximately 20–30%).
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to data center, server, or telecom hardware, or to thermal and cooling system design.
Experience with sensorless control algorithms, field weakening, or acoustic noise reduction techniques.
Familiarity with EMI/EMC standards and mitigation for switching power stages.
Experience with a vendor motor control SDK or GUI tuning tool, or with firmware optimization for code size and control-loop latency.
Prior customer-facing experience as an FAE, applications engineer, or in technical support.
