Chief Clinical Informatics Officer (CCIO)
Location: Bon Secours Health System (Travel across Cork, Galway, Limerick, Dublin and Tralee as required)
Reporting to: Chief Information Officer
Bon Secours Health System (BSHS) is seeking an exceptional clinical leader to join us as our Chief Clinical Informatics Officer (CCIO).
This is a unique opportunity to influence one of the most significant healthcare transformation programmes in Ireland. As we continue the rollout of BonsConnect, our Electronic Health Record (EHR) programme, and prepare for the opening of the New Bon Secours Hospital Limerick, we are looking for a visionary clinician who can bridge the worlds of healthcare, technology and transformation.
The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role in ensuring that digital innovation delivers safer care, better patient outcomes, improved clinician experience and greater operational effectiveness across our five-hospital network.

About the Role
As Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, you will provide strategic and operational clinical leadership across the BonsConnect programme and wider digital health initiatives.
You will act as the senior clinical voice within our digital transformation agenda, ensuring that all technology-enabled change is rooted in patient safety, clinical excellence and user-centred design.
Working closely with hospital leadership teams, clinicians, programme teams and national stakeholders, you will help shape the future of healthcare delivery across Bon Secours Health System.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Clinical Digital Transformation
Provide strategic leadership for the ongoing implementation, stabilisation and optimisation of BonsConnect.
Develop and drive the clinical informatics strategy for BSHS.
Lead clinical design, workflow transformation and system adoption activities.
Ensure alignment between clinical requirements and system build, testing, training and optimisation.
Identify opportunities to leverage technology, analytics and digital innovation to improve care delivery.
Champion clinical standardisation and evidence-informed practice across all hospitals.
Champion Clinical Governance and Patient Safety
Ensure robust clinical governance frameworks underpin all digital programmes.
Promote the safe and effective use of digital technologies in patient care.
Collaborate with Quality, Patient Safety and Information Security leaders to maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance.
Drive the use of informatics to support quality improvement and clinical outcomes.
Build Engagement and Influence
Act as a trusted advisor and advocate for clinicians throughout the digital transformation journey.
Lead and support multidisciplinary clinical working groups.
Foster strong relationships with medical staff, nursing leaders, allied health professionals and executives.
Represent Bon Secours Health System at national and international forums relating to digital health and clinical informatics.
Provide Strategic Thought Leadership
Advise executive leadership on emerging trends in digital healthcare.
Support organisational strategy by identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Contribute to the development of policies, standards and best practices for digital health.
Ensure the organisation remains at the forefront of clinical informatics excellence.
Lead People and Performance
Lead a team of Clinical Information Specialists.
Support and mentor hospital-based CCIOs across the BSHS network.
Create a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
Drive engagement and readiness for large-scale organisational change.
Eligibility Criteria
You are a respected clinical leader with a passion for harnessing technology to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
You bring a strategic mindset, excellent relationship-building skills and a proven ability to lead transformational change in complex healthcare environments.
Essential Requirements
- Medical qualification at NFQ Level 9.
- Minimum of five years' experience in healthcare leadership, clinical informatics, digital transformation or health IT.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting EHR implementation, optimisation or large-scale digital programmes.
- Strong understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare technology.
- Proven ability to influence, engage and inspire multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Passion for innovation, patient safety and improving healthcare quality through technology.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- NFQ Level 10 in Medicine.
- Certification in Clinical Informatics, Health Information Technology or Data Analytics.
- Experience with MEDITECH EHR systems.
- Experience leading complex, multi-site healthcare transformation programmes.
- Knowledge of healthcare information governance, interoperability and regulatory standards.
- Experience working with national digital health initiatives.
