Company:

QT Technologies Ireland Limited

## Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > ASICS Engineering

General Summary:

About the role

Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Global CAD team develops advanced tools, flows, methodologies, and software platforms that enable next-generation VLSI design across Qualcomm's product portfolio. This position requires deep expertise in computer science, combinatorial optimization, and scalable software architecture, combined with the ability to drive technical strategy across complex engineering domains.

You will lead the development of CAD technologies, design methodologies, and automation solutions that enable implementation flows for advanced semiconductor technologies (3nm and below). Working within a highly interdisciplinary environment spanning hardware, software, and algorithmic research, you will help define and drive innovative solutions to large-scale microelectronic design challenges through data-driven decision making and advanced optimization techniques.

Innovation is a core aspect of this role. Operating at the intersection of electronic design automation (EDA), artificial intelligence, data analytics, and software engineering, you will identify emerging opportunities, influence technical direction, and translate research concepts into production-quality solutions. We seek candidates with strong expertise in constraint reasoning, mathematical optimization, and algorithm design, coupled with demonstrated experience in building scalable software systems, driving engineering best practices, and collaborating across geographically distributed teams.

As a technical leader, you will architect and implement advanced automated reasoning frameworks to solve highly complex VLSI design challenges using techniques from artificial intelligence, constraint programming, SAT solving, mathematical optimization, integer programming, and metaheuristics. You will also provide technical mentorship, guide architectural decisions, influence roadmaps across teams, and drive the adoption of innovative methodologies that improve productivity, quality, and scalability across Qualcomm's design ecosystem.

Experience & Education we would love to see:

  • Recognized technical expertise in automated reasoning, AI optimization, constraint solving, operations research, or related computational methods, with a demonstrated track record of advancing state-of-the-art solutions in complex problem domains.
  • Deep expertise in graph theory, combinatorial optimization, advanced data structures, and algorithmic design, with the ability to apply these concepts at scale to solve highly complex engineering challenges.
  • Proven ability to architect, innovate, and drive the development of next-generation constraint reasoning and optimization frameworks, delivering significant improvements in scalability, performance, and solution quality.
  • Demonstrated leadership in designing and delivering high-performance, production-grade software systems, establishing engineering best practices across software architecture, testing, code quality, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and long-term maintainability.
  • Expert-level programming skills in Python, with the ability to define technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive adoption of modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across organizational boundaries, influencing roadmaps, aligning stakeholders, and driving execution in highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Strong ability to translate complex electronic design automation (EDA), semiconductor, or engineering optimization requirements into scalable algorithmic and software solutions.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing engineers, raising the technical bar of the organization through coaching, design reviews, technical leadership, and knowledge sharing.
  • Communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to audiences ranging from engineers and researchers to senior leadership and business stakeholders.

We would also like to see:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in computer science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees (PhD) preferred.
  • Relevant research contributions, publications, patents, or industry-recognized innovations are highly valued.
  • Experience with data science approaches and data visualisation tools for large-scale problems is a plus
  • Experience on C/C++ object-oriented programming, and/or experience in Synthesis or Physical Design Flows, CAD tool development is a plus
