Overview 

Sev Rend Corporation is a leading manufacturer of flexible retail packaging and sustainable materials. We are actively seeking to fill an SQF / Quality Technician position at our advanced production facility in Collinsville, Illinois. We are looking for hardworking and driven individuals interested in helping us uphold our longstanding commitment to our customers through quick lead times and superior quality. The Flexible Packaging SQF / Quality Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining Sev-Rend Corporation's Quality Management System and SQF Food Safety System. This position is designed as a developmental role for an individual who demonstrates the aptitude, initiative, and desire to advance into a future leadership position within the Quality Department.

Working closely with the Quality, Food Safety & Technical Operations Manager, the successful candidate will receive mentorship and hands-on training in quality assurance, food safety management, regulatory compliance, auditing, customer requirements, and continuous improvement processes. This role is intended to develop the knowledge, technical skills, and leadership abilities necessary to assume increasing responsibility within the department and ultimately progress into a Quality & Food Safety Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

SQF Program Support and Management

· Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the SQF Food Safety and Quality  Management System.

· Support compliance with SQF requirements, customer standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Participate in internal audits, program verifications, and compliance assessments.

· Assist with annual system reviews, validations, verifications, and management review activities.

· Develop an understanding of SQF Practitioner responsibilities through training and direct mentorship.

Documentation and Record Management

· Maintain accurate food safety, quality, and regulatory records.

· Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating procedures, work instructions, forms, specifications, and supporting documentation.

· Support the administration of HACCP, Food Defense, Food Fraud, Environmental Monitoring, Traceability, Recall, and Corrective Action programs.

Quality Assurance Activities

· Conduct routine product inspections and quality evaluations.

· Perform line audits, GMP inspections, and housekeeping assessments.

· Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

Training and Employee Support

· Assist with employee training programs related to food safety, GMPs, quality standards, sanitation, and customer  requirements.

Risk Assessment and Food Safety Programs

· Participate in food safety risk assessments and hazard evaluations.

· Support the maintenance and verification of HACCP plans and prerequisite programs.

Audits and Compliance

· Assist in preparing for SQF Certification Audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.

Supplier Quality Support

· Assist with supplier approval, monitoring, and re-evaluation activities.

Continuous Improvement and Leadership Development

· Support quality improvement initiatives.

· Collect, analyze, and trend quality and food safety data.

· Progressively assume ownership of quality and food safety programs.

Requirements

  

Required

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

· Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

· Ability and willingness to learn food safety, quality management, regulatory compliance, and SQF system requirements.

Experience and Skills that May Be Beneficial 

· Experience in food manufacturing, food packaging manufacturing, or other food-contact manufacturing environments.

· Experience in plastics, film extrusion, converting, packaging, or other regulated manufacturing environments.

· Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMPs, Food Defense, Food Fraud, and regulatory compliance programs.

· Experience working with quality management systems, data analysis, and corrective action programs.

· Experience in Lean Manufacturing

This position serves as a key succession-planning role within the Quality Department. The selected candidate will receive direct mentorship from the current SQF Practitioner and Quality, Food Safety & Technical Operations Manager, with the objective of developing the technical knowledge, leadership skills, and regulatory expertise necessary to assume increased responsibility for the site's Quality and Food Safety Management System.
