We're assisting a fast growing startup in the music tech space with their search for their first mobile engineer. Their product uses AI to transcribe audio into sheet music. The role will work onsite in their SF office.
What you'll own:
- Mobile app development from zero to one — the entire codebase for iOS (now) and Android (next)
- Core infrastructure: database architecture, authentication, payments
- Shipping fast and iterating — specs and design mocks into production at exceptional speed; prototype, then refine on user feedback and usage data
- The mobile UX end to end — haptics, feel, the "make it nice" bar
- As the team grows, guiding junior devs and helping set mobile engineering culture and best practices
- Being the redundancy: owning the app so it keeps moving without the CTO in the loop
What you'll bring:
- 1+ years of full-time mobile development experience, including shipping and maintaining consumer mobile apps with significant user bases
- Strong command of the full mobile stack: modern mobile frameworks (e.g., React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or similar), Next.js, Tailwind, backend-as-a-service platforms (Supabase strongly preferred), authentication, payments, database design, and API integration
- Deep technical knowledge and problem-solving ability. You're the kind of engineer who can teach the team new approaches, anticipate issues before they arise, and make smart tradeoffs between speed and architecture
- Strong product intuition and collaboration skills. You work fluidly with product and design teams, push back constructively when needed, and have an eye for what makes mobile experiences delightful
- Able to work in-person at the San Francisco Bay Area office
- Experience playing an instrument and/or strong passion for music
- (Bonus) Familiarity with music transcription and music data formats (e.g., MIDI, MusicXML, etc.)
- (Bonus) Experience in game development or working on learning software, particularly in music
