Description of Work

This Regional Crew Lead assists in the oversight of collecting recreational fishing data needed to implement North Carolina’s comprehensive recreational fishing data program. This position supports NOAA’s Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP), including the Access Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS). This position is Home Based and serves as the APAIS crew lead for the Morehead City region. The information collected, coded, and reviewed by this position must be accurate for use by state and federal fisheries management agencies in making regulatory decisions through development of fishery management plans. This position is responsible for maintaining security of the data under state and federal laws.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the APAIS State Coordinator to:
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate workload for a regional crew of technicians, assist in communication and documentation of work
• Conduct site visits at various saltwater access points
• Mentor and train regional crew members
• Conduct creel interviews with recreational anglers and sample harvested fish
• Plan, schedule, and participate in the observation of catch and release on For-Hire headboat vessels
• Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with the public

Recruitment Range - $37,377 - $49,650

The Division of Marine Fisheries

The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) is responsible for the stewardship of the state’s marine and estuarine resources. The DMF’s jurisdiction encompasses all coastal waters and extends to 3 miles offshore. Agency policies are established by the nine-member Marine Fisheries Commission and the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality. North Carolina is a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, and the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. Associate's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
