Position Summary

Progress Valley, Inc. is seeking a Licensed Psychologist (LP) to provide outpatient mental health services on a contracted (1099) basis. This position offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to deliver high-quality, person-centered care in our clinic, which operates under the Minnesota Mental Health Uniform Service Standards and MHCP policies. Core responsibilities may include therapy, diagnostic assessment, consultation, and, depending on training and interest, psychological testing and evaluation. The LP will practice independently within applicable state standards. The contracted LP will provide services in accordance with clinical training, licensure, the needs of the client population, applicable laws, and the independent contractor agreement.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Licensed Psychologist contracted with Progress Valley, Inc. will provide a range of outpatient mental health services in accordance with clinical training, licensure, and the needs of the client population.

Outpatient Mental Health Services

• Service: Deliver compassionate, person-centered outpatient mental health services, including diagnostic assessments, clinical impressions, and treatment plans developed collaboratively with clients and, when appropriate, other providers, while honoring each person’s dignity, background, beliefs, and experiences.
• Ownership: Maintain the mutually agreed-upon level of client service hours specified in the independent contractor agreement, manage scheduling and caseload commitments responsibly, and follow through on services and documentation tied to care rendered.

Assessment and Care Coordination

• Assess clients’ mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. Collaborate with external providers, care teams, and referral sources to promote integrated and coordinated care.
• Work with clients to establish immediate and long-term treatment goals, select appropriate therapeutic approaches, and evaluate progress over time.
• Awareness and Resilience: Identify client crises, remain grounded and adaptable, and respond with empathy and sound clinical judgment within the scope of licensure, agency policy, and ethical guidelines, including implementing safety plans and coordinating with emergency or community resources as needed.

Support and Psychotherapy

• Awareness: Support clients in building self-regulation, coping skills, problem-solving abilities, emotional awareness, and improved interpersonal functioning by listening to understand and communicating clearly, respectfully, and constructively.
• Provide psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families, and/or groups, consistent with clinical training, licensure, and client needs.
• When clinically indicated and within scope, coordinate and collaborate with other systems, such as medical providers, schools, probation, or social services, to support treatment goals.

Psychoeducation, Cultural Responsiveness, and Collaboration

• Utilize psychoeducation and evidence-informed interventions to assist clients in identifying appropriate community and recovery-oriented resources.
• Service and Awareness: Deliver culturally responsive and affirming care that respects clients’ cultural identities, values, gender identity, sexual orientation, and lived experiences, demonstrating empathy, curiosity, and respect in every interaction.
• Maintain professional collaboration with ancillary programs and services at Progress Valley while functioning independently as a contracted provider.

Documentation and Professional Development

• Ownership and Integrity: Complete timely, accurate, transparent, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, psychological reports, when applicable, and required correspondence; take responsibility for correcting errors and meeting payer and regulatory expectations.
• Growth: Participate in clinical consultation, peer collaboration, and training opportunities outlined in the contractor agreement; seek and apply feedback, advance professional skills, and contribute to improving and expanding services.

Additional Responsibilities

• May be asked to provide supervision, consultation, or training to interns or staff, as permitted by licensure, credentialing, and contractual agreement.
• Perform other mutually agreed-upon clinical or consultative services consistent with licensure and scope of practice.
• Provide services via telehealth and/or in person, as clinically appropriate and permitted under Minnesota DHS telehealth guidelines.

Requirements

Psychological Testing & Assessment (Preferred)

• Preference will be given to candidates possessing interest, training, or experience in psychological testing and assessment.
• Potential opportunities may involve diagnostic clarification, cognitive screening, personality evaluation, ADHD assessments, or other psychological evaluations aligned with the LP’s scope of practice and the clinic’s requirements.
• Details regarding assessment services, expectations, and compensation will be specified separately within the contractor agreement.

Qualifications

Required

• Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Psychology from an accredited program.
• Licensed Psychologist (LP) in the state of Minnesota, in good standing.
• Eligibility to enroll and credential with DHS and applicable payers.
• Ability to practice independently and manage clinical responsibilities as a contractor.
• Ability to pass DHS Rule 11 background study.

Preferred

• Experience providing outpatient psychotherapy with adults and/or adolescents.
• Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Training or experience in psychological testing and assessment.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed and evidence-based practices.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary or integrated care settings.

Additional Requirements

• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer literacy and comfort with EHR systems.
• Ability to manage time, caseload, and documentation independently.
• Independent Contractor Status
• This position is structured as a 1099 independent contractor role, not a W-2 employee position. The Licensed Psychologist maintains control over clinical decision-making, scheduling within agreed parameters, and methods of service delivery, consistent with applicable laws and contractual terms.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Flexible schedule with minimum availability of at least 4 hours per month up to a full-time equivalent, as agreed by contract.
• The Mental Health Clinic is open Monday through Friday, offering services to clients currently receiving care at Progress Valley and to individuals from outside the organization.
• Services may be provided in the outpatient clinic and/or by telehealth, consistent with clinical appropriateness and Minnesota DHS requirements.
