Senior Construction Materials Field Technician

What You'll Do

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and certified Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Senior Field Technician II to join our Charlottesville team. The Senior Field Technician II performs advanced field testing, observation, and inspection activities on projects of moderate complexity with minimal supervision. This role serves as a senior technical resource in the field and may act as the lead technician or field representative on assigned projects. The Senior Field Technician II provides training and oversight to junior staff while ensuring quality, accuracy, and efficiency of field operations, maintaining a positive customer service attitude, and demonstrating ECS Core Values.

  

Responsibilities 

• Performs field observation, testing, sampling, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, structural steel, and related materials
• Executes complex and routine testing activities independently
• Serves as lead technician or field representative on assigned projects
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
• Reports changing site conditions and additional testing needs to supervisors
• Prepares detailed and accurate daily field reports documenting site conditions and results
• Performs calculations, data reduction, and technical documentation tasks
• Maintains and organizes field equipment and testing materials
• Assists in resolving field issues and supporting project execution
• Trains and mentors Technician I, Technician II, and Senior Technician I staff
• Coordinates field activities and supports project team communication
• Participates in project meetings with senior staff as required
• Performs other field leadership and technical duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 3 years of related experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Maintain basic certifications and three advanced certifications applicable to the work performed as per the ECS Technician Certification Policy
  • General industry OSHA 10 may be required
• If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
• Advanced knowledge of construction materials testing principles and standards
• Strong understanding of construction practices and jobsite operations
• Advanced proficiency with electronic devices and reporting systems
• Strong math and data reduction skills
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and testing requirements
• Ability to work independently and lead field efforts
• Ability to train and mentor junior technicians
• Ability to lift equipment and materials regularly (up to ~85 lbs)
• Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and company policies

The expected pay range for this role and location is $26.08/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
