Description
Join National Presto Industries as the Supplier Quality Engineer and lead efforts to ensure supplier products, materials, and manufacturing processes meet quality, safety, regulatory, and performance standards. This role also serves as the primary technical quality contact for suppliers and manufacturing partners while providing direction to external quality resources.
As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you will also:
- lead supplier qualification and development activities by evaluating quality systems, manufacturing processes, technical capabilities, capacity, and production readiness;
- provide supplier-quality leadership during new product development, sourcing, design review, specification development, production qualification, and product or process changes;
- lead / support APQP, PPAP, process validation, pilot builds, first-production reviews, and related readiness activities
- develop / review quality plans, control plans, inspection requirements, acceptance criteria, process-capability studies, and other supplier-quality documentation.
- lead supplier investigation, containment, and corrective action for significant defects, production failures, field issues, customer complaints, and recurring problems using structured problem-solving methods.
- evaluate supplier root-cause determinations and corrective actions for technical adequacy
- evaluate manufacturing processes for capability, repeatability, process control, inspection effectiveness, error-proofing, and overall quality risk, using data to drive prevention improvement
- direct external quality resources supporting inspections, audits, and production monitoring, corrective-action follow-up and other assigned supplier-quality activities.
Requirements
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, quality, or materials engineering or related technical discipline
- previous experience in supplier quality, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or a related manufacturing environment
- experience working directly with suppliers, contract manufactures, or outsourced manufacturing operations is preferred
- experience with consumer products, electrical productions, metal fabrication, plastics, die casting, coating, assembly operation, or similar manufacturing processes is beneficial
- Strong knowledge of supplier quality, manufacturing processes, process control, supplier development and preventative quality principles
- working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, control plans, process capability, statistical process control, corrective action, and root-cause analysis
- ability to travel independently domestically and internationally

- ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, inspection results, test requirements, and manufacturing data
- strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, including the ability to distinguish symptoms from true root causes and drive sustainable corrective action
- ability to evaluate manufacturing processes and recognize conditions that may affect product quality, reliability, safety, compliance, or production consistency
- strong written, verbal, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate expectations and challenge suppliers constructively.
