Position Summary
Immaculate Conception School is seeking a dedicated, nurturing, and highly organized Lead Preschool Teacher to provide a safe, engaging, faith-filled learning environment for our preschool students. The Lead Preschool Teacher is responsible for the overall management of the classroom, implementation of developmentally appropriate instruction, supervision of classroom staff, and communication with families.
As a Catholic school educator, the Lead Preschool Teacher is expected to support the mission of Immaculate Conception School and model Christian values through interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the school community.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Classroom Management
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities that support students' academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
- Establish and maintain consistent classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
- Create a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, organized, engaging, and appropriate for young learners.
- Incorporate hands-on learning, play, music, movement, art, literacy, mathematics, science, and faith formation throughout the preschool program.
- Differentiate instruction and activities to meet the developmental needs of individual students.
- Observe and document student growth, development, and areas of concern.
- Prepare students academically and socially for successful progression into the next stage of their education.
Faith Formation
- Support and uphold the Catholic identity and mission of Immaculate Conception School.
- Incorporate prayer, Catholic traditions, Scripture, and age-appropriate faith formation into the daily classroom routine.
- Model Christian behavior, compassion, respect, patience, and service.
- Classroom Leadership
- Serve as the primary teacher and leader of the preschool classroom.
- Provide clear direction and expectations to classroom assistants and support staff.
- Coordinate classroom responsibilities to ensure students are appropriately supervised at all times.
- Work collaboratively with the Preschool Director, Principal, fellow teachers, assistants, and support staff.
- Maintain a professional, positive, and collaborative working relationship with colleagues.
Student Safety and Supervision
- Maintain active supervision of students throughout the school day, including classroom activities, meals, restroom breaks, recess, transitions, arrival, and dismissal.
- Follow all school, diocesan, and applicable state health and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate attendance and student records.
- Follow established procedures for student illness, injury, emergency situations, and student release.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and families.
Family Communication
- Establish positive and professional relationships with preschool families.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding classroom activities, upcoming events, student progress, and developmental concerns.
- Prepare classroom newsletters, announcements, and other family communications as required.
- Conduct parent conferences and participate in meetings regarding student progress when appropriate.
- Address parent concerns professionally and involve the Preschool Director or Principal when necessary.
Professional Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and remain prepared for the school day.
- Maintain lesson plans and required classroom documentation.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and required trainings.
- Maintain required certifications and complete diocesan Safe Environment requirements.
- Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Immaculate Conception School Faculty Handbook and Family Handbook.
- Maintain professional conduct, appearance, communication, and confidentiality.
- Keep the classroom and instructional materials organized, clean, and well maintained.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Preschool Director or Principal.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children.
- Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to provide a nurturing environment while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
- Commitment to supporting the Catholic mission and values of Immaculate Conception School.
- Ability to meet all background check, Safe Environment, and employment requirements of Immaculate Conception School and the Diocese of Nashville.
Preferred:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a lead preschool or early childhood teacher.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in a Catholic or faith-based educational environment.
Physical Requirements
The Lead Preschool Teacher must be able to perform the physical responsibilities associated with caring for young children, including standing and walking for extended periods, sitting on the floor, bending, kneeling, assisting children with daily needs, supervising outdoor activities, and lifting or carrying classroom materials and equipment as necessary.
