Clinic Nurse-Pain Clinic-Full Time

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reports to the Clinics Administrator and Clinic Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to provide general nursing care and leadership; working collaboratively with physicians and multi-disciplinary team members in maintaining standards for professional nurse practice in a clinic setting. The RN will promote and restore patient's health as they prescribe, provide, delegate, evaluate and coordinates comprehensive professional nursing care through the use of the nursing process for patients ofall ages, gender, cultures, and background; provide physical and psycho-social support to patients, friends and families.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Assesses, plans, directs and evaluates total nursing care as determined by the patient's age-related physical, psychosocial and cultural needs in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures of the Medical Center, Nursing Services and Chapter Six of the Code of lowa.
- Serves as a patient advocate, resource and contact person for patients.
- Provides basic education information to patients and family, focusing on self-care appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs.
- Performs assessment data collection and document subjective data (chief complaint and allergies) and objective data (vital signs and weight).
- Reviews basic health history information for patients; focusing on environmental, self-care and clinic discharge planning.
- Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly, and performs lab/diagnostic testing as ordered by provider and reports all critical lab values to the provider. Demonstrates an ability to remain calm, perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.
- Anticipates and prepares examination room with equipment and supplies required for the visit and assists provider with examination and procedures.
- Utilizes universal precautions in obtaining specimens (venipuncture, cultures, etc) and in deliver of patient care.
- Performs lab testing (i.e. urine dip, pregnancy, strep screen, hemacue,) including quality controls and maintains all laboratory/diagnostic test logs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the care given by interdisciplinary care team and identifies problems and guides team members to their solution.
- Assigns care team members in accordance with patient needs, staff capabilities and qualifications to meet needs of the clinic.
- Participates in training, orientation, credentialing and education of new employees.
- Communicates professionally, clearly, concisely and accurately, creating a working climate that promotes growth, team spirit and job satisfaction of personnel.
- Serves as resource person to other staff. Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of the Medical Center and compliant with policies, procedures, regulatory agencies and professional requirements.
- Participates in the development and revision of policies, and procedures.
- Maintains economical and efficient nursing care in a clean and safe environment.
- Participates in development and implementation of performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates ongoing understanding of Corporate Compliance issue.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Nursing Director/Director of Outpatient Medical Clinics/Clinic Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current RN license recognized by the State of lowa Board of Nursing.
2. Knowledge of nursing care in accordance with regulations and practices established by the lowa Board of Nursing
3. Successful demonstration of competence in Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider).
4 Successful completion of Clinical Services general nursing and unit specific orientation.
5 Consistently demonstrates a team approach to care.
6 Demonstrates effective communication strategies.
7 Familiarity with the use of a computer.
