Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager II with a strong background in power generation, power delivery, renewable energy, or heavy industrial projects. This role will lead cross-functional project teams and be responsible for project planning, execution, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, stakeholder communication, and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, milestones, and resource plans.
- Lead cross-functional teams and coordinate activities across engineering, operations, construction, and other stakeholders.
- Track project costs and ensure work remains within approved budgets.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Monitor schedules, deliverables, and overall project performance.
- Manage scope changes and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
- Resolve project issues and escalate critical concerns when necessary.
- Implement appropriate project management methodologies and best practices.
- Ensure quality standards and project requirements are met.
- Lead project closeout activities, stakeholder sign-off, and lessons-learned reviews.
Required Qualifications
- 5–10 years of project management experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in power generation, power delivery, renewable energy, or heavy industrial environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business, or related technical discipline preferred.
- Strong experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk, and resources.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional project teams.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with project management software and tools.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies including Agile and/or Scrum.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
- Must be willing to travel throughout the Southern Company service territory for project work.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP or other recognized project management certification.
- Utility or energy industry project management experience.
- Experience with power plant, transmission, renewable energy, construction, or capital improvement projects.
