Child Advocate Attorney I-IV

Do you have a Juris Doctorate Degree? Are you licensed to practice in the State of Georgia and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia? Consider applying for this Child Advocate Attorney position in the Chatham County Indigent Defense Unit.

May be hired as Child Advocate Attorney I-IV with the level dependent upon experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience level.

• Perform professional legal work involved in representing the legal rights and best interests of abused and neglected children in dependency matters before the Chatham County Juvenile Court. 
• Investigate abuse allegations and litigate dependency cases before the Juvenile Court. 
• Provide legal representation, including case investigation, legal research, evaluation, and strategic preparation for dependency court proceedings. 
• Represent clients at all stages of their cases. 
• Provide ongoing case monitoring and advocacy by collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure that clients’ well-being needs are met, and that permanent homes and caretakers are identified. 
• Regularly visit child clients and communicate with Department of Family and Children Services case managers, other attorneys, foster parents, educators, and medical and mental health professionals. 
• May supervise staff. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
• Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia or be able to obtain within a specified time.
• Must be a Member in Good Standing of the State Bar of Georgia or be able to obtain within a specified time. 
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
