Inside the Role

As a contributing member of the DTNA Safety Team, the Corporate Safety Specialist III supports the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of safety programs, projects, and operational initiatives that protect people and strengthen business performance. This role partners with operations, engineering, maintenance, project teams, and union representatives to identify risks, implement controls, and integrate safety into day-to-day operations and project activities. The Safety Specialist III provides technical expertise and project support for manufacturing improvements, facility modifications, equipment installations, capital projects, and other operational initiatives. Leveraging data, collaboration, and continuous improvement principles, this role helps ensure safety requirements are embedded throughout project planning and execution while driving measurable improvements in safety performance. Through effective communication, coaching, and relationship-building, the Safety Specialist III engages employees, leaders, contractors, and union partners to promote accountability, influence safe decision-making, and foster a culture of safety excellence.

What You Drive at DTNA

• Partner with site leadership, operational teams, union representatives, and the Corporate Safety Team to support safety initiatives and achieve site safety objectives.
• Build employee trust through visible and consistent safety support while reducing the human, operational, and financial impact of workplace injuries.
• Serve as the dedicated safety resource for greenfield manufacturing development projects, ensuring safety requirements are integrated throughout facility design, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
• Partners with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and operations leaders to identify risks, implement controls, and support the safe execution of project milestones.
• Lead and support project safety activities including risk assessments, design reviews, contractor safety management, pre-startup safety reviews, and operational readiness evaluations.
• Coordinate safety requirements for capital projects, facility modifications, and equipment installations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and DTNA, DT, etc. standards.
• Participate in facility and equipment design reviews to identify hazards and support safe planning principles that minimize operational risk.
• Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities through field presence, risk identification, issue resolution, and stakeholder collaboration.
• Drive safety performance by facilitating incident investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, medical staff, and union representatives to improve safety performance, reduce risk, and strengthen employee engagement.
• Support the implementation and sustainability of safety management systems, Life Critical Risk programs, and site-specific safety initiatives.
• Analyze safety performance metrics, leading indicators, and trends to identify improvement opportunities and support data-driven decision-making.
• Participate in regulatory inspections, internal audits, and corporate assessments while supporting corrective action development and closure.
• Collaborate with DTNA safety professionals to share best practices, benchmark performance, and support continuous improvement across the organization.
• Build strong relationships with employees, leaders, contractors, and union partners to promote a proactive and inclusive safety culture.
• Travel up to 80%

 

Knowledge You Should Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience supporting occupational safety programs within manufacturing, industrial, construction, engineering, or operational environments.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, NOM, CSA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Experience supporting safety activities for capital projects, facility construction, equipment installations, process improvements, or operational readiness initiatives.
• Working knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation processes, safety management systems, and continuous improvement principles.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively engage employees, leaders, contractors, and union representatives.
• Experience utilizing safety data, metrics, and trend analysis to identify risks and support performance improvement efforts.
• Understanding of occupational health principles, injury management processes, and employee health programs.

 Exceptional Candidates Might Have

• Master's degree in Safety, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
• Experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of Enablon or similar EHS management systems
• Experience supporting multi-site operations, large projects, or cross-functional initiatives preferred.
• ASP, CSP, CHST, CAPM, or other relevant safety or project management certifications.
• Experience supporting manufacturing start-ups, greenfield projects, facility construction, or major operational expansions.
• Experience participating in design reviews, contractor safety management, commissioning activities, or pre-startup safety reviews.
• Experience leveraging safety analytics, leading indicators, and digital technologies to proactively identify and reduce risk.
