Job Description

Objective of Position  

Under general supervision, responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved vendors and placing purchase orders in response to product requirements established by various departments within the organization. Evaluates bids, selects and recommends suppliers and negotiates price, quality and service.  

Responsibilities  

• Typically reviews important bids with supervisor before placing orders. 

•  Expedites the orders by suppliers to meet production.  

• Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage, claims, rejections, losses, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes.  
• May conduct supplier site visits, and rate them as to production capability, performance and delivery. 

Qualifications

Requirements 

  

• Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  

• Requires at least 1-year related experience. 

• Intermediate knowledge in a wide range of concepts and approaches, including purchasing for  lean manufacturing, Kanban and supplier, development. 

•  Requires strong negotiation abilities and above average, analytical skills. 

•  Shows excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

•  Requires some knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control. 

•  Competent in computerized procurement systems.  

• Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
