Role Overview
The Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering high-quality accounting, taxation, company secretarial coordination, and financial reporting services to a portfolio of clients while providing technical oversight and guidance to junior accountants. The role requires strong hands on experience within an accounting firm, sound judgement, and the ability to manage client relationships, deadlines, and compliance independently.
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in protecting quality, ensuring compliance, and driving accountability across assigned client portfolios.

Key purpose and responsibilities:
- Oversee and review general accounting processing prepared on Xero, Pastel, Sage, and QuickBooks
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts and supporting schedules
- Draft and review annual financial statements using CaseWare or Draftworx
- Calculate, review, and submit provisional tax returns
- Prepare and review Income Tax returns for Individuals, Companies, and Trusts
- Perform and review VAT reconciliations and VAT submissions
- Ensure full SARS compliance across all assigned client portfolios
- Manage SARS registrations and maintenance of client tax profiles
- Assist with audits and independent reviews, including responding to audit queries
- Conduct and lead monthly client meetings and provide professional advisory support
- Review work prepared by junior accountants and provide coaching and guidance
- Identify errors, risks, and process improvement opportunities
- Ensure deadlines, productivity targets, and billing expectations are met
· Liaise with auditors, clients, and internal stakeholders
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly portfolio status reports covering Management Accounts, Tax, Accounting/Bookkeeping, and Company Secretarial services, including work due, completed, in progress, overdue, awaiting client information, key risks, billing status, and matters requiring escalation.

Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Completed SAICA articles (mandatory)
- Professional registration or progress toward professional qualification is advantageous
- Practical audit experience, preferably gained during SAICA articles, with exposure to audit working papers, audit evidence, substantive testing, and responding to review queries.
- Practical experience applying South African tax legislation and SARS requirements across client portfolios, including Income Tax, Provisional Tax, VAT, and related tax compliance matters.
