NJM's Special Investigations Unit in West Trenton, NJ is seeking a Summer Intern for 2027!
Overview
The SIU Analyst Intern will support NJM's Special Investigations Unit by using data analytics, research, and reporting to help identify potential insurance fraud and support investigative teams. Interns will analyze predictive model results, identify trends and anomalies, and develop actionable insights that aid business and investigative decision-making. This role provides valuable exposure to fraud detection, data mining, and the insurance industry while developing strong analytical, technical, and communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Triaging and analyzing scorecards and outputs from predictive models for General Claims, Personal Lines, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims and Medical Providers.
- Conduct data mining efforts to explore anomalies, conduct statistical analysis, and identify patterns and trends related to fraudulent Personal Lines and Commercial Lines policies and claims.
- Conduct background research on available public databases to support the need for the escalation of the claim review.
- Review NJM databases, retrieve NJM recorded calls, and support the investigative teams.
- Provide metrics and statistics, as well as actionable intelligence to aid in decision making.
- Articulate and convey analyses into information that can be consumed by non-technical staff.
- Share analytical findings with SIU Supervisory staff.
- Attend virtual industry meetings to broaden exposure to the insurance industry.
Qualifications and Required Skills
- Current Sophomore or Junior pursuing their Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics and Economics.
- Familiarity in data science tools and available systems (SQL, SAS, PowerBi).
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal, written, technical and presentation communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Pro-active and self-motivated.
- Ability to listen effectively and actively engage others.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to conduct online research and review results.
- Commutable to our West Trenton, New Jersey office.
The SIU Intern position can pay $21-$25 hour.
