Job Summary:
The Department of Modern Languages invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Spanish. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, and scholarly activity. The faculty member will support the institution's mission and foster an inclusive learning environment that promotes intercultural competence, critical thinking, and effective communication.Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop instructional plans (syllabus) for each class and ensure course content aligns with department standards;
Teach Introduction and Intermediate Spanish classes to non-majors;
Teach upper-division Spanish classes, and contribute a class to the integrative core curriculum;
Grade assignments, papers, and other student work, monitor student progress, and provide additional guidance or instruction, where appropriate;
Maintain office hours and occasionally meet with students outside office hours to support student learning;
Advise students
Maintain currency in Spanish, and related disciplines, including occasional related conference attendance;
Develop and continue scholarly research in the field, which may include the involvement of undergraduate students;
Produce publications and/or conference presentations;
Attend Regis College Faculty-Senate Forum Meeting attendance; 1-3 meetings per semester
Attend Department of meetings in Modern and Classical Languages;
Perform community or academic service outside the Department on committees, groups and/or task forces;
Research focus in areas such as Spanish in the U.S., language variation and research with indigenous communities, languages in contact, sociolinguistics, and/or heritage language pedagogy and the use of AI.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field
12 months experience teaching Spanish at an institute of higher education.
Demonstrated working knowledge of: teaching Spanish for heritage speakers; research in second language acquisition, teacher training, language program development, language assessment, language and technology, and Sociolinguistics; and grant writing
Minimum of 4 peer-reviewed publications in field of linguistics.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, including Spanish heritage language acquisition
