About Citi Markets

At Citi Markets, we win together. In a rapidly changing world, our shared vision gives us the clarity, agility and global perspectives we need to shape the future. That's why collaboration plays a central role in how we deliver for clients, develop our people, and grow our business.

Our Equities franchise is a cornerstone of our Markets division, offering clients deep liquidity, innovative execution strategies, and access to global equity markets across developed and emerging regions. We combine cutting-edge technology with human expertise to provide best-in-class trading, financing, and risk management solutions.

Role/Team Overview

Citi is seeking an experienced Pan European Cash Equities Trader to join our London-based trading desk. This is a high-impact, revenue-generating role at the heart of our European equities franchise. You will be responsible for pricing and trading a diverse range of cash equity products, managing risk and inventory profitably, and driving revenue growth through strategic market making and client engagement.

This role offers significant autonomy, the opportunity to work with sophisticated institutional clients across Europe, and the platform to expand Citi's already well-established distribution footprint. Our open, supportive culture empowers us to share clients, ideas, and success—there's no arrogance, no politics, just leaders at every level looking for ways to work together, learn from each other, and constantly improve.

What you'll do

  • Price and execute cash equity trades across Pan-European markets (including UK, Germany, France, Nordics, and Southern Europe), providing competitive two-way pricing and deep liquidity to institutional clients while managing execution risk and market impact.
  • Actively manage equity inventory positions, optimize capital deployment, and deliver consistent profitability through disciplined risk management, hedging strategies, and tactical positioning in response to market dynamics and client flow.
  • Build and maintain relationships with institutional clients (hedge funds, asset managers, pension funds), understand their trading needs, and develop innovative solutions that deepen wallet share and expand Citi's European equity footprint.
  • Work closely with Equity Derivatives, Prime Finance, Sales, Research, and Electronic Trading teams to deliver integrated client solutions, share market insights, and identify cross-selling opportunities that leverage Citi's full product suite.
  • Monitor European equity market microstructure, regulatory developments (MiFID II, transparency requirements), and competitive positioning; contribute to desk strategy, trading algorithms, and liquidity optimization initiatives.
  • Partner with Quantitative Strategy and Electronic Trading teams to enhance algorithmic execution, improve trade capture systems, and adopt new technologies (machine learning, AI-driven analytics) that drive operational efficiency and alpha generation.

What we need from you

  • Extensive experience trading European cash equities at a Tier 1 investment bank or proprietary trading firm, with a demonstrable track record of consistent P&L generation, risk management, and client engagement at a senior level.
  • Deep understanding of European equity market structure, exchange mechanics (LSE, Euronext, Xetra, SIX), dark pools, systematic internalisers, and regulatory frameworks (MiFID II, short selling rules, market abuse regulations).
  • Established network of institutional buy-side clients across Europe; ability to originate flow, provide value-added insights, and build long-term partnerships that translate into revenue growth and wallet share expansion.
  • Strong quantitative skills with proficiency in statistical analysis, risk metrics (VaR, Greeks, liquidity measures), and familiarity with programming languages (Python, R, SQL) or algorithmic trading platforms is highly advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK and EU regulatory requirements, including FCA Certification Regime, conduct risk, market conduct standards, and post-trade transparency obligations.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, complex environments; tenacity, will-to-win mentality, and a collaborative mindset that aligns with Citi's team-oriented culture and global operating model.
