Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Synthesis Slurry Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on materials, chemistry, engineering or related field.
The Slurry Center of Excellence team supports the production, research/development and characterization of new solid state battery electrolytes. This role will gain hands on experience performing several characterization techniques (electrochemical, physical and chemical). This role will work alongside our engineers and contribute to essential and highly visible projects within Solid Power
Job Duties:
- Work closely with and under the direction of Engineers to execute planned experimentation aimed at optimizing current synthetic and process routes for sulfide solid state electrolytes.
- Assist Engineers in material characterization, data acquisition, and analysis.
- Perform regular and required housekeeping.
- Handling and proper disposal of hazardous materials and equipment.
- Communicate experimental results to a broad audience and participate in experimental brainstorming and planning.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Pursuing Chemistry, Materials Science, or related degree from an accredited college/university.
- Experience in material characterization techniques including rheology, DSC/TGA/SDT, XRD, FTIR, EIS.
- Experience in synthetic and/or analytic chemistry.
- Comfort with safe handling of hazardous materials and equipment is required.
- Knowledge of Li-ion battery materials optimization.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Physical Requirements:
- Some prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Some prolonged periods of standing
- Ability to lift 50 lbs daily.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Hourly Compensation: $25/hour
Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during fall semester
