A Mortgage Loan Processor is responsible for reviewing, organizing, and processing mortgage loan applications to ensure all required documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with lending guidelines. They work closely with loan officers, underwriters, borrowers, and third-party vendors to gather information, verify financial documents, and help move loans efficiently through the approval and closing process. The role requires strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple files while meeting deadlines.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Pre-qualifies and cross-sells first and second mortgage loan products ensuring the member receives the best available product to meet their needs, while maintaining portfolio standards. Acts as the main contact during the application process and provides regular status reports to members, maintaining good communication and quality service.
- Originates and processes loan files. Prepares applicable loan documentation including disclosures, orders, credit reports, verifications, appraisals, title work, and other pertinent data.
- Works post-closing tracking report, ensuring outstanding documentation is obtained and properly recorded. Track and file insurance policies, contacting member whenever notified of unpaid taxes to ensure they are paid prior to sale notice.
- Answers online applications, questions and emails that are sent to the Mortgage Department.
- Take at least two trainings per year on mortgage compliance and processes.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements
- Submit complete loan application forms and supporting documentation to loan officer in a
timely manner for prompt loan decisioning. - Ensure accuracy of information to determine income, debt and credit history with zero errors.
- Ensure compliance of all loan denials or approvals with lending policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Provide informed, professional, accurate service and support to all members and associates by responding to messages and correspondence within 48 hours.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of all mortgage products and rates within the credit union and from the mortgage industry.
Requirements
- Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Needs 1-3 years of experience
- Lift 10 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time.
- A high school education or GED.
