Department: Dual Credit Programs
General Statement of Job
The Dean for Dual Credit Programs Initiatives provides the leadership for pre-college programs and initiatives including dual credit courses, Early College High Schools and Dual Credit Partnerships, Academies and High School Projects and Programs, and other programs as may be developed. Collaborates with K-12 educational leaders to identify and address critical opportunities for school district partnerships and develops programs and initiatives to address those needs. Maintains appropriate lines of communication with all school district stakeholders including superintendents, administrators, deans of instruction, principals and counselors.
Promotes college-readiness programs such as Summer Bridge, TexPREP, and Recovery programs. Assesses the quality and effectiveness of programs and initiatives and formulates plans for continued improvement, while ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements. Participates and contributes to institutional-wide planning in support of the mission and goals of the College. Represents South Texas College on local, regional, state, national taskforces and committees.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Oversees the Dual Credit Programs staff (Early College High Schools and Dual Credit Partnerships, Academies and High School Projects and Programs, and Dual Credit Program Instructional Pathways).
- Collaborates with K-12 educational leaders to identify and address critical needs of the school districts partners and develops programs and initiatives to address those needs.
- Provides oversight and leadership for the growth and quality of the pre-college programs such as Dual Credit Programs, Projects, and Initiatives.
- Leads and monitors the success of all Dual Credit Programs including the dual credit course offerings, Early College High Schools and Dual Credit Partnerships, Academies and High School Projects and Programs.
- Develops and promotes all student college-readiness programs such as Summer Bridge, TexPREP, and Recovery programs.
- Assesses the quality and effectiveness of all dual credit programs and formulates plans for continued improvement.
- Provides leadership in assessing the instructional needs of the school districts in the College’s service area, and maintains appropriate lines of communication with key school district stakeholders including the district’s superintendents, administrators, deans of instruction, principals, and counselors.
- Identifies, develops, implements and articulates initiatives which provide a clear high school to college pathway for students, parents, families and support members, working with appropriate school district personnel, community agencies, and college constituencies.
- Supports college enrollment goals by developing and coordinating K-12 and community initiatives that connect students to higher education and South Texas College in particular, working with others on campus to increase market penetration in local high schools and advance efforts to increase equity for students from traditionally under-represented populations.
- Leads the development of a contemporary and comprehensive early college strategy and the implementation of the approved plan.
- Oversees site visits by other colleges and universities and events with school districts within the College’s service area.
- Serves as financial manager of the department and oversees the department’s budget development.
- Recommends the development or modification of necessary policies in the areas of dual credit education for continued sustainability and improvement.
- Ensures compliance with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) rules and The Commission on Colleges and Universities accreditation requirements.
- Represents the College in the community and with regulatory agencies, local boards, and advisory councils.
- Recommends and participates in the development of professional development for the dual credit faculty.
- Collaborates closely with the Office of Sponsored Initiatives department to seek grant opportunities to support innovative initiatives in the dual credit area.
- Maintains knowledge of the College’s programs, policies, procedures, academic standards and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s degree required, field of Education preferred; Doctorate degree preferred.
- At least three (3) years of progressive administrative/supervisory experience with public schools, community colleges, and/or universities required; with 5 years of administrative experience preferred.
- Experience in a post-secondary education institution, preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with academic-transfer, technical, and developmental education programs in a multi-campus environment.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and internet research skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects that require demonstrated leadership ability.
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action.
- Team player with the ability to collaborate with all college departments, functions, and other support services.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, THECB and The Commission on Colleges and Universities regulations, governmental regulations, and Legislative policy.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from executive management, faculty, staff, students, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or Boards of Trustees.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Security Sensitive position: all applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.

- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
