Job Description Summary
The Food and Beverage Manager embodies Sonesta's Culture of Caring. This includes maintaining profitability, delivering high-quality products, and ensuring excellent service levels. The manager is also expected to develop creative marketing strategies to boost business, reduce employee turnover, manage revenue and payroll budgets, and achieve budgeted productivity while consistently upholding quality standards. Job Description
This position primarily operates in a service environment, with some dedicated office time for administrative tasks.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Oversee all daily operations of the outlet, Stephen Fs Bar.
- Supervise and lead outlet personnel.
- Address guest complaints promptly.
- Collaborate with other food and beverage managers, keeping them informed of emerging issues.
- Keep the immediate supervisor/lead fully informed of all problems or matters requiring attention.
- Assist in coordinating and monitoring all phases of Loss Prevention within the outlet.
- Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure the preparation of necessary reports, including (but not limited to) Wage Progress, payroll, revenue, employee schedules, and quarterly action plans.
- Monitor service quality in the food and beverage outlet.
- Assist in menu planning and preparation.
- Ensure compliance with all local liquor laws, health, and sanitation regulations.
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all outlets.
- Ensure compliance with requisition procedures.
- Maintain a visible presence on the floor, assisting staff in all positions as needed throughout the shift.
- Complete scheduling and managing time edits, over time, vacation and sick time requests for outlet staff.
- Conduct staff performance reviews in accordance with Sonesta Hotel Policies and Standards.
- Ensure the training of employees in SOPs and technical job tasks.
- Complete product and continued education for staff.
- Complete weekly ordering, product management and inventories
- Participate in and/or conduct departmental and hotel training and meetings
- Interview candidates for front-of-house food and beverage positions and follow hiring approval standards.
- Complete tip reporting and communicate with accounting and payroll
- Understand, implement, and monitor corporate promotions in the outlet (if applicable), including buffet and three-meal concept standards.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Assist with marketing, promotions and buy-out events
- Collaborate with Sales, Banquet and Culinary departments.
- Communicate with outlet team and across departments at a high level.
- Assist with Café and Banquet departments as needed.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications or Skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.

- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- MICROS - Food & Beverage POS System a plus

- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
- Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
- Attend all required hotel meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in Manager on Duty (MOD) coverage as required.
- Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Sonesta Hotel Policies and Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the hotel's needs.
- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.
- Comply with Sonesta Hotel Policies and Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues as necessary.
- Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information and data from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
Education and/or Experience
- Higher education in business, hospitality or related field is an asset.
- Previous hotel, restaurant and bar experience is a must. Knowledge of basic bartending and server skills is a must.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
- Shifts may be from 8-12 hours depending on hotel and outlet needs.
