Manager - Software Engineering

Here at Wolters Kluwer Italia we are looking for a Manager – Software Engineering with strong leadership ability, a pragmatic outlook and experience growing teams and people to join our Product Software Development teams.

As a Software Engineering Manager you will build and lead a high performing team of engineers working to deliver highly-scalable, web-based software. As part of engineering leadership, you will serve as an expert in software design & architecture with a proven track record of executing large initiatives using agile practices.

A key objective of this role will be driving the adoption of AI-native software development practices across the Software Development Lifecycle, helping teams leverage Artificial Intelligence throughout the Software Development Lifecycle, adopting AI-native practices such as agentic software development, spec-driven engineering and AI-assisted delivery to increase software quality, engineering productivity and innovation.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Provide project-based technical leadership within the Engineering team.

• Drive the adoption of AI-native software development practices, including agentic workflows, spec-driven engineering and AI-powered development tools across engineering teams.

• Partner with Product and Architecture leaders to identify opportunities where AI can improve delivery effectiveness and customer outcomes.

• Interpret business challenges and recommend best practices to improve software programs and/or internal WK applications.

• Apply specialized expertise and advanced technical knowledge of programming languages and software to perform complex technical assignments .

• Lead others in solving complex technical problems, using sophisticated analytical thought to identify innovative solutions.

• Translate business needs into capability build up and hiring plans in own teams, play a key role in helping us continue to attract, develop and retain great engineering talent.

• Help our people set goals that will grow their careers.

• Foster a diverse and inclusive working environment where everyone can thrive.

• Identify blockers, problems or red flags and ensure the teams are aware of these and take timely action to deal with them.

• Set performance goals according to employee expectations and company needs and check the progress towards these goals with periodical check-ins, collecting feedback, and giving support and direction.

• Collaborate with the recruiting process (candidate screening and interviews) and help define the team composition and the overall organizational design.

Qualifications and Skills:

• At least a couple of years’ experience leading people.

• Experience with modern software engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, agentic workflows and spec-driven approaches.

• Understanding of how Artificial Intelligence can be applied throughout the Software Development Lifecycle.

• Solid understanding of Cloud Application & development.

• Solid knowledge of Microsoft .Net programming languages.

• Knowledge of C#, frontend programming languages (Javascript, HTML5, CSS) and SQL Database.

• Knowledge of versioning tools (Git).

• Strong knowledge of Agile practices (ideally TDD).

• Strong understanding of how to drive a thriving Engineering culture.

• Data driven approach to decision making.

• Able to implement evaluation criteria and career planning for engineers which address a healthy mix of technical & leadership skills.

• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

• Fluent in Italian and English.
