Job Description

We are looking for an STI Coordinator, Intern to assist with conducting case investigations, providing training for new interns, and supporting public health initiatives. This position will be Part-Time and On-Site in Indianapolis, IN.

Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Complete the STI Passport to Partner Services training course and achieve a grade of 80% or higher on all examinations within 6 months of hiring

  • Complete all required training provided by the STI Program’s DIS Training Coordinator

  • Successfully complete the HIV Skills Building Course for DIS, including observed testing and referral sessions

  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct thorough, timely, and effective STI and HIV case investigations

  • Interpret laboratory results for standard STI tests and recognize recommended treatments for various STIs

  • Assist Managers and Supervisors in selecting, interviewing, and training new interns for the Prevention Program

  • Train new DIS (Disease Intervention Specialists) and assist in their onboarding process

  • Conduct all business in a professional, nonjudgmental manner utilizing tact and diplomacy

What You'll Need

Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to interpret federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies pertaining to HIV and STI infections and surveillance activities

  • Ability to effectively represent the Program, Division, or Agency at local, state, or nationwide events regarding population health and public health

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write government-style documents

  • Ability to manage and work on multiple high-priority tasks and projects with varying due dates

  • Ability to learn and use programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, and videoconferencing services like Zoom or Teams

  • Ability to communicate with patients about sensitive topics in a nonjudgmental, empathetic manner

Preferred:

  • A B.S. degree from a four-year accredited college or university in public health or social sciences; OR currently enrolled in such a program, anticipating graduation the same year the position begins; OR six years of professional experience in public health or a health care-related field

  • Knowledge of record management and problem-solving methods, particularly in public health contexts

  • Experience working with diverse populations in culturally sensitive environments

Physical Demands 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

  • Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$27.50 per hour

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will include 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
