Job summary
We are seeking an experienced OpenSearch Administrator with 3+ years of hands-on experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our OpenSearch environments. You will collaborate with a global team of administrators to design, automate, build, operate, and continuously enhance the indexing services that support our customer-facing SaaS products.
What you will do
- Monitor cluster health, performance, and resource utilization.
- Implement security best practices including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
- Develop backup and recovery strategies for OpenSearch clusters.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex OpenSearch issues.
- Perform cluster upgrades and patches with minimal downtime.
- Optimize query performance and data indexing strategies.
- Collaborate with development teams to implement efficient search solutions.
- Create and maintain documentation for OpenSearch configurations and procedures.
- Implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Act as a backup for other team members when necessary.
- Provide on-call support and working off-hours as needed to ensure reliability and availability.
- Bi-weekly rotating shifts are necessary to ensure coverage during weekends.
What you will have
- 3+ years of hands-on experience administering OpenSearch clusters.
- Strong understanding of OpenSearch architecture and core concepts.
- Experience with OpenSearch Dashboards, Logstash‑compatible pipelines, and OpenSearch Data Prepper.
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting.
- Knowledge of JVM tuning and garbage collection optimization.
- Experience with monitoring tools for OpenSearch (e.g., OpenSearch Dashboards, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment working on projects against strict deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, system reliability engineers and other business units.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot user facing service incidents & outages.
Nice to have
- OpenSearch certification.
- Experience with cloud‑based OpenSearch deployments (AWS OpenSearch Service, GCP, Azure).
- Experience with monitoring tools and techniques (e.g., New Relic, Splunk, etc.).
- Background in performance tuning for large-scale search applications.
- Experience with automation or CI/CD tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, GitLab or SaltStack.
