Hiring Incentive Bonus Available! The City of Fort Lauderdale is now offering an $8,000 signing bonus to an external candidate who successfully completes the selection process and is hired as an Electro Technician for the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center (current City employees are not eligible for the Hiring Incentive Bonus). We are currently hiring for other Electro Technician positions at other City locations.  Please note that only the position working at the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center is eligible for the signing bonus.

Maintains electrical controls and associated equipment at water and wastewater plants, wastewater and water distribution facilities, wellfields, and tanks. Installs, inspects, maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, calibrates, programs, modifies, upgrades and tests a wide variety of electrical, electronic, and instrumentation equipment and software related to the water treatment plant and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Installs, maintains, repairs and replaces electrical, electronic and instrument systems and equipment. Services SCADA system and monitors, flowmeters, pump station alarm (dialers), and security systems (CCTV) in secured locations.   

In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).

NOTE:  As described above, only one currently vacant position will report to the Prospect Lake Clean Water Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: A new state-of-the-art, membrane-based potable water treatment facility, being developed via a 30-year public-private partnership between the City of Fort Lauderdale, IDE Technologies, and Ridgewood Infrastructure. Designed to replace the nearly 70-year-old Fiveash plant, it will draw water from the Biscayne Aquifer and has a capacity of 50 million gallons per day. The plant will combine nanofiltration (treating about 70% of flow) and ion-exchange (the remaining 30%) to deliver clear, high-quality potable water while minimizing raw water losses and energy use.
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Works around medium voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and tests industrial electrical wiring systems, fixtures, motors, generators, transformers, and other industrial electrical and/or electronic equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintains switches, switch components, and transformers.
  • Tests equipment for possible electrical trouble; repairs industrial electrical equipment and related components.
  • Repairs and replaces industrial electrical and/or electronic panels, fuses, switches, and wiring.
  • Lays out, tests, calibrates, and installs instruments and related devices used for controlling automatic equipment for measuring flow, pressure, temperature, etc.
  • Maintains adequate records relating to installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and replacement of instruments, controls, and related devices.
  • Procures parts and services as needed.
  • Assists in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • May be required to perform "stand-by duty", being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs to malfunctioning electrical, electronic and/or instrument systems.
  • Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Have successfully graduated from an accredited high school or trade school, or possess an acceptable G.E.D. certificate, preferably supplemented with trade courses in industrial electricity, electronics or instrumentation.
  2. Minimum of four (4) years of experience with instrumentation and controls. 
  3. A relevant Associate's or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience.
  4. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.   
  5. Electrician Journeyman License or Certification in Electronics is preferred. 
  6. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel and climb ladders up to 30 feet in performing a variety of job-related tasks.
