Drafter / Designer – Structural Steel

A well-established multi-trade infrastructure contractor in the Newmarket area is looking to add a Drafter / Designer to their growing team.

This role is focused on the design and detailing of prefabricated structural steel systems used on a variety of industrial, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects. Working closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams, you'll prepare accurate fabrication drawings while ensuring designs meet engineering standards and project specifications.

What You'll Be Doing:

-Prepare engineering and fabrication drawings from concepts, sketches, and project specifications

-Develop approval and shop drawings for structural steel fabrication

-Experience in connection details, weld symbols

-Ability to read and interpret structural drawings.

-Knowledge of miscellaneous and custom metals.

-Review drawings to ensure compliance with engineering standards and project requirements

-Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD (2D & 3D) and SolidWorks

-Work closely with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams

-Communicate project progress and revisions with internal stakeholders

-Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency

What We're Looking For:

-Degree or diploma in Engineering Technology or a related discipline

-Minimum 4 years of drafting/design experience using AutoCAD

-Strong proficiency with AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, SolidWorks, Autodesk Advance Steel

-Experience interpreting project specifications, structural drawings, and tender documents

-Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

-Experience with structural steel fabrication drawings is considered a strong asset
