Description
This is a senior, hands-on leadership position within Jersey Post's IT function. The Head of Infrastructure combines strategic ownership with direct technical delivery — this is not a purely managerial role. With a small, capable team, you will be expected to roll up your sleeves alongside your engineers, bringing deep personal expertise to the design, build, and operation of Jersey Post's infrastructure.
The role covers networks, cloud and on-premise platforms, security, and telephony. It does not extend to operational technology such as postal sorting equipment, which is managed separately, though close collaboration with the Head of Operational Technology is essential given the interdependencies between IT and OT environments.
Jersey Post is currently undertaking a significant transformation programme, and infrastructure is central to its success. This role will be a key contributor to that programme — ensuring the underlying platforms, connectivity, and security capabilities are in place to support new systems, ways of working, and services as they are delivered.
You will work as part of a collegiate senior IT leadership team, with particularly close working relationships with the Head of Architecture & Data and the Head of Operational Technology, ensuring that infrastructure decisions are aligned with enterprise architecture principles, data platform needs, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Jersey Post’s infrastructure, networks, cloud services, and communications platforms, taking a hands-on role in implementation and support.
- Drive infrastructure strategy and modernisation, ensuring scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions that align with business and enterprise architecture requirements.
- Support Jersey Post’s transformation programme by delivering infrastructure, cloud, network, and system integration projects that enable new technologies and services.
- Maintain and enhance the organisation’s security posture through proactive vulnerability management, patching, threat monitoring, incident response, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide expert second-line support for infrastructure services, resolving complex technical issues and driving continual service improvement.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of infrastructure engineers while fostering strong collaboration across IT, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.
- Manage infrastructure performance, lifecycle planning, budgets, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service delivery.
- Contribute to IT leadership and strategic planning, helping shape the future technology landscape and supporting Jersey Post’s evolving business needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in a senior infrastructure role, combining technical leadership with hands-on delivery.
- Strong expertise in networks, servers, virtualisation, cloud technologies, and hybrid environments.
- Good understanding of cyber security principles and infrastructure best practices.
- Experience supporting technology transformation, migration, and change programmes.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical challenges.
- Effective communicator, able to build relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience leading teams, managing suppliers, and delivering high-quality services.
- Able to balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational responsibilities.
