Prelude FLNG is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations while protecting our people, contractors, assets, and reputation. As the HSSE Team Lead, you will provide visible leadership and strategic direction for operational safety performance offshore.

Reporting to the HSSE Manager, you will lead a team of HSSE professionals supporting Prelude's offshore operations and partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Marine, Projects, and Contractor leadership teams. You will strengthen safety culture, improve operational discipline, enhance risk management, and drive continuous improvement across all aspects of the business.


You will play a key role in maintaining the effectiveness of the Safety Management System, strengthening assurance and governance processes, improving operational learning, and ensuring critical risks and associated controls are effectively managed. Acting as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, you will provide constructive challenge to ensure risks are managed in accordance with regulatory requirements, industry good practice, and the Shell Control Framework.

As a senior HSSE leader, you will role model Shell's values, foster an inclusive and psychologically safe environment, and build a culture of accountability, care, learning, and operational excellence.



What You'll Do


Safety Leadership & Risk Management

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to support safe, reliable, and efficient offshore operations.
  • Promote visible safety leadership and workforce engagement to continuously improve operational and personal safety performance.
  • Ensure operational risks are effectively identified, assessed, and controlled through robust risk management practices.
  • Champion the effectiveness of critical risk controls and support barrier management activities associated with major accident hazards.
  • Drive the implementation of learning from incidents, audits, inspections, and industry events to prevent recurrence and improve risk controls.

Assurance & Compliance

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on compliance with HSSE standards, legislation, and regulatory obligations.
  • Monitor HSSE performance indicators, identify trends, and provide insights to improve decision-making and operational performance.
  • Act as a focal point for relevant HSSE requirements, ensuring standards remain current, implemented, and effectively assured.

Continuous Improvement

  • Embed Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) principles across the asset to strengthen learning, resilience, and operational excellence.
  • Lead initiatives focused on reducing risk, simplifying processes, and improving the effectiveness of HSSE systems and work practices.
  • Foster a culture that encourages reporting, learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive improvements through the effective use of performance data, assurance findings, and operational insights.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of HSSE professionals.
  • Build HSSE capability across the asset by strengthening operational leadership skills, risk awareness, and understanding of safety requirements.
  • Promote a culture of trust, inclusion, accountability, and continuous development.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulators, contractors, industry bodies, joint venture partners, and internal stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated commitment to HSSE excellence and a strong personal commitment to care for people.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in HSSE leadership or a role with significant operational safety accountability within high-hazard industries such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Mining, Petrochemicals, or Heavy Industry.
  • Proven experience supporting frontline operations and improving operational safety performance in complex operating environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Safety Management Systems, operational risk management, assurance processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Sound understanding of major accident hazard management, critical risk controls, and barrier management principles.
  • Experience leading and developing teams while fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and operational teams to drive behavioural and organisational change.
  • Strong analytical, systems-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate insights into practical operational improvements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
  • Passion for operational excellence, simplification, continuous improvement, and delivering sustainable HSSE outcomes.
