Position Summary

Arch Insurance Canada is seeking an experienced actuarial executive to lead pricing, reserving, analytics, and actuarial oversight for the Canadian business.


As a member of the Canadian Executive Leadership Team, this role is responsible for delivering actuarial leadership that supports profitable growth, financial discipline, and data-driven decision-making. The successful candidate will combine deep Canadian Property & Casualty insurance expertise with strong business acumen, advanced analytical capabilities, and a hands-on approach to leadership.


The role operates within a broader North American Insurance actuarial framework and works closely with the North American EVP, Chief Actuary to ensure the Canadian business leverages North American best practices while addressing the unique requirements of the Canadian market and regulatory environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all actuarial functions, including pricing, portfolio management, reserving, regulatory reporting, and capital support.
  • Partner with underwriting and executive leadership to set portfolio strategy, evaluate growth opportunities, challenge assumptions, and manage risk-adjusted profitability. Provide oversight and challenge of external actuarial reviews, reserve analyses, and IFRS 17 reporting.
  • Align Canadian pricing methodologies, reserving practices, actuarial standards, and governance with North American framework while owning material Canadian market or regulatory considerations.
  • Support the adoption and effective use of enterprise actuarial systems, tools, and reporting capabilities.
  • Develop and enhance actuarial, analytics, and management reporting capabilities across the organization.
  • Work directly with business and technology teams to identify, extract, validate, and analyze insurance data.
  • Build actionable reporting and business insights that support executive decision-making.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing actuarial and analytics team while elevating technical and data capabilities.
  • Operate as a hands-on leader, supporting complex analytical, data, and business challenges when required.

Qualifications

  • FCIA or FCAS designation.
  • 15+ years of Property & Casualty actuarial experience.
  • Significant Canadian P&C pricing and portfolio management experience.
  • Deep expertise in pricing, profitability analysis, reserving, and underwriting performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 17, actuarial financial reporting, and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced programming skills and experience working with data platforms such as Snowflake and Python.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, data governance, and actuarial data management.
  • Proven experience extracting, validating, and interpreting large insurance datasets.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

CAD $320,000 TO $350,000

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
