Working for Aalberts Surface Technologies

Aalberts ST is a global specialist in heat and surface treatments. Its Letchworth Garden City site is the company’s largest and most diverse facility in the UK, working with customers across industries including aerospace, Formula 1, defence, automotive and engineering. This is particularly important in industries where the performance, quality and reliability of every component matters.

As an Apprentice, you’ll get hands-on experience within this highly technical environment. You’ll learn how specialist heat-treatment processes are carried out, monitored and improved, work with manufacturing equipment and process data, and develop your skills alongside experienced production and quality teams.

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Working hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Company pension scheme
  • Employee discount
  • Life insurance
  • On-site parking
  • Profit sharing
  • Sick pay
  • Regular training and development opportunities

Key Responsibilities

About You

You’re someone who enjoys being part of a hands-on environment where things are being made, processed and produced. Industrial settings don’t put you off, you’re comfortable around machinery, equipment and structured processes, and you like understanding how things work. You’re reliable, organised and take pride in doing things properly, with a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.

You’re naturally curious and enjoy solving problems. You’re comfortable looking at information and process data, asking questions and investigating why something might not be working as expected. You’ll also have good basic IT skills and be confident using computers to enter information, work with data and learn new software and systems.

You’ll already have some experience working in an industrial environment, such as a factory, manufacturing or production setting. You don’t need previous experience in heat treatment, but you should be comfortable working in this type of environment and keen to learn, develop your technical knowledge and build your skills within manufacturing.

Please note: Applicants must be aged 18+ and have at least one year of experience working in an industrial environment, such as a factory, manufacturing or production setting.

To apply for this apprenticeship, you must:

✔️ Be 18 or over
✔️ Not be in full-time education
✔️ Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years
✔️ Have the right to work in the UK

Apprenticeships are designed to provide new knowledge, skills and behaviours, so applicants should not already hold a Level 3, degree or higher qualification in a closely related subject, or have significant experience in the same field.

If you’re unsure whether you meet the criteria, we’d still love to hear from you, get in touch and we can advise you further.
