Description
Trial Attorney, Motor Vehicle Insurance Defense
Locations: Elmsford, Nassau County, or Poughkeepsie, New York
Salary: $160,000–$190,000 per year, depending on experience
Work Arrangement: Primarily on-site, with some hybrid flexibility
Take motor vehicle personal injury defense cases from litigation strategy through jury verdict. This role is for an attorney who has first-chair trial experience in motor vehicle insurance defense and can independently manage cases, advocate in court, and advise clients and insurance carriers on litigation strategy and exposure.
Join an established New York litigation firm with a longstanding presence in the market. The practice handles automobile liability, municipal liability, premises liability, and general negligence matters. You’ll take ownership of trial work, work directly with clients and insurers, and collaborate with attorneys and legal support staff on case strategy and preparation.
What You’ll Do
-
Serve as first-chair trial counsel in motor vehicle and personal injury insurance defense cases, handling matters through verdict.
-
Manage litigation, assess liability and damages, and develop case strategies.
-
Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses and experts, and develop trial exhibits and motions.
-
Draft and argue substantive motions and represent clients at hearings, conferences, and trials.
-
Negotiate settlements and participate in mediations.
-
Communicate with clients and insurance carriers about case developments, strategy, and exposure.
-
Coordinate with attorneys and support staff to prepare and manage cases effectively.
What You’ll Need
Required
-
Active New York State Bar admission in good standing.
-
Demonstrated first-chair jury trial experience.
-
Direct experience trying motor vehicle accident and personal injury insurance defense cases. Commercial or criminal trial experience alone does not meet this requirement.
-
Strong knowledge of insurance defense, automobile liability, civil litigation, and courtroom advocacy.
-
Ability to manage cases independently from preparation through trial and verdict.
-
Strong legal writing, research, negotiation, analytical, and case-management skills.
-
Willingness to maintain a regular in-office presence at one of the available locations.
Preferred
-
Experience representing insurance carriers or insured defendants.
-
Experience with municipal liability, premises liability, general negligence, or related civil litigation.
