Manager, Controllership - Financial Shared Services

Johnson Controls is looking for a finance leader to oversee a key function within our financial shared services organization in a business center. This role supports accurate accounting operations, strong controls, and timely financial information that helps the business make sound decisions.

Role Overview

You will lead a specific accounting function with responsibility for daily, weekly, and monthly activities, team coordination, and the quality of financial output. The role is suited to an experienced accounting professional who can balance operational execution, control discipline, and people leadership in a shared services environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage the day-to-day, weekly, and monthly accounting activities for the assigned function.
• Establish and maintain accounting systems, procedures, and controls that support accurate financial information.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, and related accounting outputs to help ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Lead, coach, and develop team members responsible for the function.
• Partner with internal finance stakeholders and the broader business center to support service delivery and issue resolution.
• Monitor workflow, priorities, and deadlines to keep accounting activities on track.
• Support audit, compliance, and control requirements as part of the shared services operating model.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and standardization across the function.

How You Will Do It

• Own the function with accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and follow-through.
• Stay close to the work by understanding daily execution, resolving obstacles quickly, and supporting your team where needed.
• Use clear controls and disciplined reviews to protect the integrity of financial information.
• Look for practical ways to improve processes, reduce rework, and strengthen consistency.
• Work as one team by building trust with finance partners, sharing knowledge, and coaching for performance.

Qualifications

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 8 years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, or financial shared services.
• Experience leading or managing a team in a finance or accounting environment.
• Strong knowledge of accounting processes, reconciliations, journal entries, controls, and close activities.
• Ability to establish accounting systems and processes that support accurate and reliable reporting.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in a shared services, business center, or similar high-volume finance environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and deadlines.

Nice to Have

• Experience driving process improvement or standardization initiatives in finance operations.
• Background supporting internal or external audits.
• Experience in a global or multi-site accounting environment.
