Process Safety interns/co-ops are critical to ensuring that we maintain high standards for protecting people, the environment, and the communities where we work and live. They support all areas of the business, including: Refining; Midstream Crude Oil & Products Logistics (Logistics & Storage); and Midstream Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids Services. Opportunities are available for interns/co-ops to receive training in various Health, Environmental, Safety & Security (HES&S) subject areas.


Responsibilities:
Process Safety interns/co-ops assist company professionals in the following areas:

  • Lead process safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance with all elements of Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Plan (RMP), and conformance with external and internal standards. Advise on interpretation and application of internal and external standards, including Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP). Maintain and continuously improve local organization’s process safety standards/plans.
  • Conduct, facilitate, and/or coordinate process safety hazard risk identification and mitigation activities, including facility siting, PHA (Process Hazard Analysis), LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis), Management of Change (MOC), and risk calibration. Collaborates with facility personnel to ensure process safety recommendations are closed adequately in a timely manner.
  • Interact frequently with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering personnel and others to help resolve process safety issues and instill a healthy process safety culture. Communicate, elevate, and mitigate process safety risks as appropriate. Identify, develop and deliver training on process safety to stakeholders.
  • Lead/participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses and reporting. Critically review investigation root causes and recommendations and challenge the organization to learn from incidents and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct and/or validate process safety leak calculations and categorization with industry standards. Track and analyze process safety metrics to identify trends, strengths, and improvement opportunities. Develop reports to effectively communicate metrics and trends.
  • Lead and coordinate conformance and compliance audits and assurance activities for process safety. Support facilities with regulatory inspection and/or enforcement actions.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Concurrent enrollment in a Bachelor's degree seeking program for the duration of the internship experience.
  • Strong academic performance.
  • Available to work on site 40 hours per week.
  • Must be able to safely ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs and/or ladders, and lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license for work-related travel.
  • Must be able to provide reliable transportation to and from place of work.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United Sates without the need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Available for multiple work terms is preferred.
  • MIN - $34.15 per hour / MAX - $43.23 per hour
