Bring primary care, HIV care, and harm reduction together to support people who have too often faced barriers to care.

The John Ruedy Clinic is now accepting applications for casual nurses to join our multidisciplinary primary care team. Supporting people living with HIV, the clinic provides wraparound care for people who may be underserved by traditional healthcare systems, bringing together nursing, primary care, social work, counselling, pharmacy, dietetics, peer navigation and other supports. In this role, you’ll provide relationship-centred nursing care in a community-based setting, supporting patients with HIV and other complex health needs while helping connect them with the services, education and resources they need to stay well.

Shifts for this position are 800-1600, 830-1630, 1200-2000 and 1600-2000, Monday to Friday, excluding stats.

What you will be doing

  • Provide comprehensive primary and HIV-focused nursing care: Assess patient health needs, provide nursing interventions, support treatment and follow-up, facilitate baseline investigations and monitoring, and contribute to individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Support health promotion, education and prevention: Provide patient education and coaching on health and wellness, HIV-related care, treatment options and prevention, including supporting services such as point-of-care HIV testing and other evidence-based community health interventions.
  • Build continuity and connect patients with care: Develop therapeutic relationships with patients who may face barriers to accessing healthcare, coordinate follow-up and referrals, and connect patients with primary care, mental health, substance use, social and community resources.
  • Collaborate across a multidisciplinary team: Work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, peer navigators and other providers to coordinate care, share clinical expertise, advocate for patients and support person-centred, culturally safe and harm reduction-focused practice.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. At Providence Health Care (PHC), our approach to implementing mNPR reflects our commitment to person-centred, socially just, compassionate care and our dedication to Indigenous cultural safety. Guided by our mission and values - Spirituality, Integrity, Stewardship, Trust, Excellence, and Respect - PHC is working collaboratively across all departments to ensure mNPR is thoughtfully adapted to the unique needs of each clinical program and specialty area. This tailored, values-driven implementation aligns with our commitment to compassionate, innovative, and patient-centred care and positions PHC to meet the evolving health needs of our patients, residents, families, and communities.
