Plante Moran Realpoint (PMR) provides integrated real estate, development, and operational advisory services to senior living organizations. Our team helps clients understand performance, identify opportunities, evaluate strategic alternatives, and translate complex operational and financial information into practical actions that support long-term success.
Your role.
As a Senior Living Operations Analyst, you will analyze the senior living industry from an operations perspective and help clients understand what their operating and financial results reveal about current performance and future potential. You will combine quantitative analysis, industry benchmarks, market and operating trends, and direct client engagement to identify opportunities, communicate a clear performance story, and help develop practical tactics for future success.
- Perform detailed operational and financial analyses for senior living organizations, communities, portfolios, and development initiatives.
- Analyze payroll and labor data, including staffing levels, hours, wages, overtime, agency utilization, productivity, benefits, and departmental cost structure.
- Evaluate operating performance across key functions such as occupancy, revenue, pricing, labor, care delivery, dining, facilities, sales and marketing, and general administration.
- Compare client performance with relevant internal, peer, market, and industry benchmarks while accounting for differences in care level, market, scale, asset type, and operating model.
- Monitor and synthesize senior living industry trends, operating indicators, economic factors, and emerging practices to identify risks, opportunities, and implications for clients.
- Manage, clean, organize, reconcile, and analyze large, complex, and confidential data sets from multiple sources.
- Use data visualization and data storytelling techniques to convert complex findings into a clear narrative for client leadership and other stakeholders.
- Connect operating metrics and financial results to the underlying business drivers, explain what the numbers mean, and identify the actions most likely to improve performance.
- Develop actionable recommendations, implementation tactics, performance targets, and monitoring approaches that support sustainable client success.
Client engagement and communication
- Work directly with senior living clients to gather information, understand operational context, test hypotheses, and validate analytical findings.
- Participate in client interviews, meetings, site visits, and working sessions with executives, operators, department leaders, and project teams.
- Ask thoughtful questions that connect reported results with operating practices, resident and customer experience, organizational capacity, and strategic objectives.
- Prepare concise, well-structured reports that integrate quantitative findings, charts, tables, observations, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Develop client-ready presentations and communicate technical or complex analysis in a practical, easily understood manner.
- Contribute to engagement planning, work plans, information requests, critical deliverables, and project deadlines while maintaining exceptional client service.
AI, modeling, and development support
- Use approved artificial intelligence tools to accelerate research, organize and analyze information, test scenarios, identify patterns, improve reporting, and enhance the quality and efficiency of client deliverables.
- Apply sound judgment to validate AI-assisted outputs, protect confidential information, document assumptions, and ensure conclusions remain accurate, supportable, and appropriate for the client context.
- Assist in developing and evaluating pro forma financial models for new senior living developments, expansions, renovations, acquisitions, and asset repositioning.
- Support assumptions related to unit mix, occupancy ramp-up, rates, ancillary revenue, staffing, operating expenses, capital needs, and stabilization.
- Perform scenario, sensitivity, and feasibility analyses to help clients understand potential outcomes, key risks, and performance requirements.
- Translate model results into a clear investment and operating story, including implications for development strategy, repositioning decisions, and ongoing operations.
The Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, data analytics, health care administration, hospitality, or a related field with 3-7 years of experience.
- Demonstrated strength in quantitative analysis, financial analysis, operational analysis, benchmarking, and interpretation of business performance.
- Strong analytical curiosity and the ability to move from raw data to insight, from insight to a compelling story, and from that story to practical action.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; experience with business intelligence, visualization, database, or financial modeling tools is preferred.
- Practical ability to use AI tools responsibly and effectively in research, analysis, modeling support, and written deliverables.
- Excellent report writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis clearly to both financial and operational audiences.
- Ability to assess payroll and labor data and understand its relationship to service delivery, resident acuity, occupancy, revenue, productivity, and margin.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, organize significant amounts of information, maintain attention to detail, and complete high-quality work on time and within budget.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with client personnel at all organizational levels.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively as part of a project team.
- Senior living, health care, hospitality, real estate, consulting, or related industry experience is preferred.
- Willingness to travel based on client and engagement needs from up to 30% of the time and overnight stays.
- Ability to work in Chicago or Metro Detroit office, and willing to relocate if necessary.
This is an exempt position, so you may have to work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week.
