Description

Fresh Food, Happy Dogs.

We believe dogs deserve the healthiest, most natural and tastiest meals - with none of the nasties. That’s why we make FRESHly prepared food, cooked just like you would at home and delivered direct to our customers in perfect portions. As a B-Corp certified company, you’re joining a sustainable business that genuinely cares about our people, our products and our impact on the planet. Our goal is simple: to help dogs live healthier, happier, and longer lives, while leaving humans smiling after every interaction.

We’ve come a long way since our co-founders (Kev & Dave), hand delivered the very first Butternut Box. Today, we feed hundreds of thousands of hungry dogs across the UK and Europe - but we won’t stop until we’re feeding dogs everywhere. To get there, we need a team of brilliant people who share that ambition to come and work for us.

We’re looking for an experienced, commercially minded FP&A Manager to join the team here at Butternut Box on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with a strong track record in FP&A, able to hit the ground running and take ownership from day one in a fast-paced environment where comfort with ambiguity is a must.

📣 A bit about the role.

As FP&A Manager you will own core FP&A processes spanning reporting, planning, forecasting and budgeting, and be a trusted finance partner to the business. We’re looking for someone who can step in quickly, own and improve processes rather than just run them, and deliver insight that shapes decisions. In this role, you can expect to:

  • Own the rolling forecast process end-to-end. Consolidate our management accounts and inputs from business leaders to quantify how deviations from plan impact the P&L and cash over the short, medium and long term.
  • Own defined workstreams within budgeting and long-range planning, setting the approach and timetable and reviewing the outputs.
  • Own periodic P&L and cash variance analysis, holding the narrative on root causes and agreeing corrective actions with budget owners.
  • Own the 4-weekly periodic business review (PBR) process with budget owners, from pack to follow-up, ensuring risks and opportunities surface early and we make timely decisions based on business performance.
  • Act as the finance lead for commercial teams on CPA, growth rates, retention, channel effectiveness and where to allocate resources.
  • Act as the finance lead for our operational teams on unit economics, standard costs, yield, write-offs and OEE.
  • Lead scenario modelling for product / market launches and growth initiatives. We are quickly expanding across Europe; this role will help us prepare for new market launches and will work closely with international teams to support their success.
  • Present analysis to senior leadership and own the preparation of quarterly board materials, including deep dives such as sensitivity analyses, margin drivers and working capital.
  • Review the work of analysts in the team and act as a point of escalation.
  • Improve the processes you own, using AI and automation to make our reporting faster and sharper, and ensure they are documented and handed over cleanly at the end of the contract.

👋 A bit about you.

  • CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualified
  • 5+ years post-qualification, 3+ in FP&A, including ownership of forecasting and/or budgeting processes
  • A track record of hitting the ground running: comfortable taking ownership of established processes quickly (interim or contract experience welcome)
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership and preparing board-level materials
  • Highly inquisitive and analytical mind capable of complex problem solving
  • Advanced financial modelling skills
  • Strong data manipulation and analysis skills
  • Ability to produce clear graphical data representations & present data in a clear way for finance and non-finance professionals
  • Fine attention to detail with an eagle-eyed ability to spot trends and pick out inaccuracies
  • A love for all things dogs!

🍀 Nice to haves.

  • DTC experience, and a familiarity with cohorts, LTV and payback
  • Manufacturing / standard costing experience
  • Experience in reporting across multiple markets / jurisdictions
  • Experience reviewing or managing the work of analysts
  • Experience with Datarails or a similar FP&A platform

⌨️ Tech stack.

  • Excel + g-sheets
  • Datarails (FP&A platform)
  • SAP B1 (ERP)
  • AI (Gemini, Claude, Gumloop)

🙌 A bit about what we offer.

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days holiday (plus 8 bank holidays) and an additional day for every year of service up to 5 years
  • 5 additional, paid 'paws' days off per year dedicated to your learning, development or personal wellbeing. Hit pause when you need it most
  • £500 personal learning & development budget to sharpen your skills
  • A significant discount on our Fresh food, to keep your own dogs as healthy as our customers
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Flexible core working hours
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Pension with NEST
  • Private Medical Insurance with Vitality
  • Private Dental Insurance with Bupa
  • Paid time off for fertility treatments and pregnancy loss
  • Discounted gym access through MyGymDiscounts
  • Lots of office dogs (Ajax, Peggy, Chief, Louis, Hansen, Winnie and many more….)

⏳ The interview process:

  1. Initial call with your dedicated Talent Acquisition Partner, carried out remotely.
  2. Take home task, this will be sent to you via email.
  3. Skills interview, for 60 minutes, in person.
  4. Behaviours interview, for 60 minutes, followed by a 45 minute Leadership interview, in person.

We usually expect our interview process to take 3-5 weeks, end to end.

💡 Important things to note:

  • Our team thrives on collaboration. We spend 3 days a week in our West London office (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and 2 days working from wherever you’re most productive. Because being together is a big part of our culture, we’re looking for someone within a comfortable commutable distance to London.
  • We’re a small (but mighty!) recruitment team. We aim to respond to everyone personally, but if we’re flooded with brilliant applications, we may need to close the role early. We appreciate your patience while we review applications.
  • For this specific role, we’re unable to offer visa sponsorship, so you’ll need the right to work in the UK.

❗️We believe in a seat at the table for everyone.

Butternut Box is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that to make the best food for all dogs, we need a team that represents all humans. We celebrate different nationalities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We are specifically committed to increasing representation from underrepresented groups. We want a strong, diverse team built from different identities and lived experiences. We’re not perfect, but we are dedicated to the ongoing work of building an inclusive, supportive place where you can do the best work of your career.
