Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and teach swimming strokes, and explain water safety basics
- Design lessons that meet the needs of each student
- Evaluate student performance and adjust lessons
- Observe and enforce pool rules and regulations
- Provide ongoing feedback and support to students
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress
- Promote a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior
- Assist during an emergency if necessary
- Ensure that all swimming aids and equipment are in good working order
- Interact with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students' swim skills
- Perform light cleaning duties such as organizing equipment and trash removal
- 18 or more years of age
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
- Demonstrated ability to assist children and others in the development of swimming skills.
- Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
- Ability to teach skills to others.
- Ability to pass a swim competency test.
- Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
Other Job Requirements or Expectations
- Background check, successfully completed before hire
- Will be expected to work evenings and weekends
Working Conditions:
- Works in an indoor aquatic facility about 90% of the time
- Works in a general office environment about 10% of the time
- Will be exposed to wet surfaces, warm and humid conditions, noisy and crowded areas, and odors from pool chemicals
Specific Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk on a tiled deck surface throughout shift
- Bending, climbing, stooping, reaching and twisting to set up aquatic equipment
- Must be able to meet specific physical requirements for certifications and licenses required to perform the job
General Physical Requirements:
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits the employee to communicate effectively
- Sufficient vision and powers of observation which permits the employee to perform assigned tasks, follow safety signage at a facility, and observe and act upon potential safety hazards
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes which permits the employee to function in an aquatic facility and general office environment
