Prep Cook

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Prep Cook to join our team at Margaux Brasserie. The Prep Cook will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of ingredients and mise en place for our culinary team. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for culinary excellence, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the preparation of ingredients according to recipes and guidelines provided by the Chef and Sous Chef.

2. Execute basic cooking tasks such as chopping, slicing, dicing, and mincing vegetables, fruits, meats, and herbs.

3. Prepare sauces, stocks, and dressings following established recipes and techniques.

4. Clean, peel, and trim fruits and vegetables for use in various dishes.

5. Properly measure and portion ingredients for use in cooking and baking.

6. Organize and maintain a well-stocked and organized kitchen, ensuring that all ingredients are properly labeled and stored.

7. Assist in receiving and inspecting deliveries of fresh produce, meats, and other food items to ensure quality and freshness.

8. Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure that all food items are prepared and presented according to restaurant standards.

9. Adhere to all food safety and sanitation protocols, including proper handling and storage of perishable items.

10. Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations.

Requirements:

1. Proven experience as a Prep Cook or similar role in a high-volume restaurant or culinary environment, preferably in fine dining or French cuisine.

2. Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and culinary terminology.

3. Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.

4. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

5. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks as needed.

6. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

7. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

8. Formal culinary training or certification from a culinary institute is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

2. Ability to lift and carry heavy pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.

3. Ability to work in a hot and humid environment, near hot surfaces and open flames.
