Description of Work

Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.

At NCDOT, we’re building the roads that move communities forward—and we’re looking for a skilled professional to help lay the groundwork.

If you have hands-on experience with highway construction stakeouts and a strong command of moderately complex surveying, this is your opportunity to play a critical role in shaping major infrastructure projects. From translating plans into precise field layout to ensuring accuracy that keeps projects on track, your expertise will directly impact the success of every mile built.

This isn’t just another surveying position. It’s a chance to work on dynamic highway construction projects where precision, problem-solving, and technical skill are valued every single day. You’ll collaborate with engineers, contractors, and field crews to turn complex designs into reality—setting the standard for quality and efficiency in the field.

If you’re ready to bring your accuracy, field experience, and drive to projects that truly make a difference, we want to hear from you.

This position supports the Division 6 / Lillington/Fayetteville Resident Engineer’s Office and will serve as Survey Party Chief. Duties include performing survey work on complex construction projects, supervising survey crews and lower-level technicians, making independent decisions, and communicating effectively with co-workers, contractor's personnel, and the general public. When contract surveying is utilized, the Survey Party Chief will be responsible for reviewing the contractor’s survey submittals and providing checks of their construction layouts in the field. Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and specification/inspection procedures.

The selected candidate for this position must have the ability to promote safe working environments. Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties.
