Client Accountant
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Client Accountant to provide high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The successful candidate will support a diverse client portfolio by preparing and reviewing financial statements, managing tax compliance, and providing professional financial guidance. The role also includes supporting wealth management and trust-related accounting functions, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and service excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare audit files and supporting documentation.
- Draft annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs and other applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare compilation and independent review files.
- Review and analyse financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and submit company, trust, and individual tax returns.
- Prepare and submit dividend tax and IT3T returns.
- Calculate and submit provisional tax returns.
- Liaise with SARS regarding client queries and tax compliance matters.
- Monitor tax deadlines and ensure timely submissions.
- Provide accounting, tax, and financial advisory support to clients.
- Act as the primary point of contact for client queries and requests.
- Communicate financial and tax matters clearly and professionally to clients.
- Identify opportunities to improve client processes and add value.
- Build and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
- Support workflow management and general practice administration.
- Assist with billing processes and fee preparation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (BCom/BCom Accounting or equivalent).
- 3–5 years' relevant experience in accounting, tax, or audit.
- Experience preparing and reviewing annual financial statements.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Experience in tax compliance and administration.
- Exposure to client-facing roles within a professional services environment is advantageous.
- Completion of, or progress towards, SAICA or SAIPA articles is advantageous.
